Papaver somniferum

Non dried? What ARE you on about, I use DRIED pods, you put them in a coffee grinder? I heard you use a razor on a ripe fresh pod and the opium oozes out which you have to scrape off. No idea how to use fresh, maybe one of those pipes
You can but its a lot of work and you need A LOT of poppies to get a reasonable amount that way. If you are just doing your own little garden I highly recommend just doing tea. Though I as well have only made tea from dried pods, I believe I used around an oz but this was a long time ago I could be mistaken, and also the alkaloid content can vary a lot so its good to err on the side of caution.

Good news! It couldn't be more simple. You just take that sap and put it in your mouth. That's it.

I shed a tear when I think of all the precious opium that has been wasted by people trying to turn it into something smokable when they could have just eaten it for great effects. There's this very strong, historical and cultural notion that opium is smoked, but the vast majority of people who are just growing a few cheeky plants are better off eating the sap and/or making tea from the pods.

It's the KISS method (keep it simple, smoothbrain)

Did this the other day. Really mild but long lasting buzz and heavy nausea. All other opiates I've done have never given me this level of nausea for mild effects. Sure when I've been blasted out of my gord on oxy or methadone or h Ive trown up, but I was really high. The fresh latex produced a very mild buzz with heavy nausea. Is it possible the thebaine content was super high?

I am happy to be proved wrong by hard evidence, but I think the thebaine scare is mASSIVELY overstated. When I read (admittedly years ago) from the Tasmanian government website stated that 'Normans' (thebaine high strain which are used to produce oxy and other Bentley compounds) are carefully separated from the high morphine strains, as these special (Norman) strains are considered a trade secret or protected item. The gov website clearly stated that high morphine seeds were sold on for culinary purposes, while thebaine seeds were destroyed.

The fact is that natural opium (and especially if you are consuming tea from pods with all the natural non-alkaloid substances in them) is pretty rough on the guts when compared to semi-synthetic, or synthetic opioids like Oxy, bupe, and others which have been designed for less histamine response and more tolerability. I started with opium sap and pod tea and then went to opioids like oxy, and I was surprised at how much more tolerarable these were. I suspect upset stomach is just natural. It can be mitigated by taking an anti-histamine (diphenhydramine is the gold standard for me, but first gen anti-histamines will work too).

Again, this is my experience and knowledge. I'm happy to be proven wrong and/or updated.

In your experience have you ever tried to collect the dried latex and smoke it? Like raw without processing. If so did it have the same histamine response? And do you think 50 pods would produce enough latex for a 1 time smoke sesh

If they're decent pods, you could get a whole bunch of delightful tea batches out of it.

Smoking raw latex is the wildest waste of time and material. Raw, unprocessed latex does not burn well, produces a pretty acrid smoke which, while not as harsh in its histamine response, can produce an instant burst of nausea.

A simple, pretty wasteful, but easy way to sample this is to score a pod and wipe the wet latex on a cigarette. Let it dry and then smoke it normally. It won't blow you away or have you nodding, but it will feel pretty chill and is a good, low-impact way to get a light sample of smoked opium.

If you have 50 decent pods, I would implore you to do the cig thing a couple of times, and then look at find an eficient way to consume it orally. Start with small amounts and take it 40 minutes after taking an anti-histamine. Your stomach will adjust a bit to the raw opium and the anti-histamine will help a lot. When you get dose right for you, you'll be able to really enjoy it. I still rank simple, raw opium as my favourite opiate of all time. The multi-faceted nature of the high and the epic length make it such as a nice way to spend an afternoon and evening.

Good luck with whatever you do and let me know how it goes :)

If you want to smoke raw opium, make a powder from it and mix with some smokable material.
