[Chaotic Action Man]

i will never forget
the look in your eyes as they carried you
two firemen on either side
down the stairs and out of our house

the way you looked at me
so afraid for that split second
until our eyes met
and you once again turned into that super hero
just for me, just for that split second
the oxygen mask, the two men and that red swirling light
disappeared

six weeks they gave you
how strong you were
to give us six months

how hard it must have been
the poison inside creeping and creeping
where only you could feel the dying inside

how hard it must have been
for you to see the fear and pain
in your two sons eyes
but how proud i am of you
both then and now

i never had the chance to tell you
on your death bed
in the hospital the night before you died
how lucky i was to have been born your son

you always said
i only want you to be happy
does this mean you forgive me
for all the stupid mistakes i have made
and when you look down on me
as i know you must
i hope you still hold the same love
as when you looked at me that night

this was by far the hardest poem i have ever tried to write. i have tried to write this before, but i could not finish, the tears would always get in the way. this time i just wrote through them. and rather then try and pick up the pieces of the other poems and carry on, i just sat down and let it spill.

thanks for the comments. it was a huge release to finally say what i needed to say to him, all these years later.

i know for many of us this forum has been a saving grace. a little lighthouse in huge vast sea. to all of you who write in this forum, who read and what not, thanks...for your works i get to read and everything inbetween.
