Panhandling for Dope Money (without getting arrested, molested, or maced)

VERY interesting post. Was a really fun read. Thanks CrystalMethBunny, I enjoy your writing style, don't underestimate your talent. Very informative and entertaining.

I wouldn't mind panhandling... just scared that I might see someone I know. The town I live in is pretty big, but you never know who you might come across when sitting outside of a big grocery store (i.e. food emporium or stop and shop) so I would be scared of gaining that reputation with ppl I know or people that know my parents (SCARY THOUGHT!)...

Also, panhandling is NEVER done in this town, its a more upper-class, "rich" town - so I think it would be really wierd if a panhandler showed up, also people wouldn't know how to deal with it so they would just immediatley call the cops (like they do with EVERY other problem that arises around here). So maybe I oughta think twice before I go out and do something like this, and I encourage others to think about these aspects as well before they make a snap decision to go out and panhandle.

That was an amazing post.

You all don't know me, but I would be the saddest, most pathetic and sympathy inducing panhandler boy in the whole world. It might be almost cute, but mostly sad...

A damn good advice topic.

I'm not super shy or anything, but I just dont think I could do it... I might one day for the hell of it...Not in this town though.

I've played guitar around downtown Seattle more then a few times. I never say anything, I just open the case (for people to put money into) and play. I practice alot anyways, so why not make some money for it? Also, I don't think I'm actually panhandling because I never ask people for money, they just drop it in my case. I hate the people who annoy people, they're just trying to walk down the street, they don't deserve to be annoyed. BTW I'm a college student and I have an appartment, I just do this for extra spending money and stuff. I've written alot of songs playing on the streets.

Ah well I wasn't really sure of the laws. I just thought as long as I'm just sitting there playing guitar I'm probably not breaking any laws, or atleast I'll draw less attention then the crack heads yelling at people.

when i was in toronto last summer i saw my first panhandler. our bus (full of visually impairied kids) was stopped in traffic and this man was knocking our windows asking for ou change. he had no shoes on, just a beater and torn jeans. then he stopped at my window and gave me this lock that i will never forget. i went back to my dorm that night and cried.

that is all

Remember kids, you're just selling karma. Some people feel bad about things they really can't do shit about, like homelessness or drug addiction, so giving money to a panhandler is some kind of charitable act which makes all the stars line up just right or something.

It's about as effective in stopping poverty and addiction as MADD billboards and PSAs are at stopping drunk driving. But unlike those "don't drive drunk" ads, you can get a bag and a cheese sandwich out of this.

Wow, dirty fucking scam artists. This certainly has changed my perspective on panhandling, I'm never going to give any money to those underhanded losers again.

Although I have never been that sympathetic to street people, I now realize that i'v fallen for that "I need money for a busride home.", "My car ran out of gas, I just need a dollar or two to get back.", more then once.

I beleive that if you hard work then you get rewarded, you don't sit on your ass all day begging for other peoples hard earned money.

Now that I know all this information i'll be sure to be very friendly and take the people out for a single hamburger while I order value meal #5 and explain my views on christianity in-depth to them.

I'd offer this one tip to panhandlers, get a fuckin' job!

bite me why dont you try being a heroin addict. i WAS homeless and i did need food too. who are you to judge?

This is a great idea, here you are offering a service and not intruding into peoples lives with lies to get their money. Panhandlers should all take a page from this mans book, and try to at least offer a service instead of relying on taking advantage goodhearted people.

A panhandler would refuse a free trip to McDonalds ? I don't think so. They wouldn't understand the mess they got themselfs into until it was already too late.

Well, if you know which supermarket throws away an metric fuckton of bagels on Tuesdays and Thursdays and you can panhandle without vomitting on anyone or spraying hepatitis-laced blood on them, you're set for life.

i read that shit before. its was on this page about the philly dope scene. this dude tried to get money off my dad one time by sayin he needed gas for his car that was broke down on I-95. so my dad picks him up gets a can of gas and drives on 95 to where the dude says his car was. when my dad sees there is no car, which he suspected in the first place, he pushed the dude out of his car on on 95 and drove off. that fuckin bum got his.
