Paleo diet

i don't even have much appetite for non-primal-type food anymore.. i've swapped almost all of my carbs to fats and imagine i've been in ketosis, and i don't get hungry. eating is great adn i'm putting down a TON, but i don't really crave anythign ever and went over 12hr morning fast the other day barely noticed it :] (i've been fasting the first 1/3 of the day maybe a bit later..) energy is through the roof, my times are steadily coming down (bike and running), sleeping soundly/routinely, still gaining weight slow/steadily. wish i'd tried this a long time ago..

good for you. I need to eat a lot more healthy. once i quit weed i wont have massive sugar/fat cravings anymore, though it will suck to go through withdrawal of that and weed at the same time.

haha i get ya, yeah i do something similar and it's rare a chicken will be around more than 2hrs after coming out of the oven ;p

haven't done a chicken in almost a week now tho, i never knew their ideal diet was bugs. coupled w/ the fact i'm not buying all 'high quality' meats yet, i'm kind of avoiding chicken for the moment. am probably being anal, but beef/pork is more than satisfactory for flesh-needs right now :D

what're you taking, supplementally, to augment paleo? i'm going through hefty amounts of: creatine; vits/mins; knox gelatine; whey; coffee ;PP

the paleo diet isnt necessary. simply cut out all the heavily processed artificial crap and eat as locally as possible. i must be drinking two gallons of milk a week and im still losing weight (and feel great)

who said the word 'necessary'? if this thread were about necessity then proper topics would be agricultural efficiency and whatnot; we're aiming for what's best. cutting out processed stuff, and especially taking a look at your carb-heavy diet, are very important, but primal takes it further, paleo/whole9 go further than that, bulletproof goes further than that, etc etc

Okay this is getting expensive. Groceries every week at $210-250. Cost isn't going to stop me from having my inner thighs kiss and visible abs.

Meat in general doesn't have bad cholesterol though.
It's really only a problem for people who would have a tendency towards cholesterol problems anyway.
Same thing with eggs. Eating a few eggs every day isn't a problem for most people, only those who are genetically predisposed to cholesterol issues.

High cholesterol foods aren't a problem for anyone.
Besides having bad cholesterol, wouldn't red meat pack way more nutrients than any bean would?

It drives me crazy to see this myth perpetuated. Dietary cholesterol has no impact on a person's cholesterol level. The only dietary factor that does is fructose. The human body makes its own cholesterol from sugar metabolites. So high cholesterol foods can be quite healthy.

For what it's worth:

I eat paleo, with an emphasis on wildcaught fish (every day), avocados, green vegetables, and intermittent fasting. I have cut out all sugar, grains, starches. I eat dairy and legumes very occasionally. No land animal meat. Very low carb (around 50-75g a day).

Since committing myself to this lifestyle, my rheumatoid arthritis inflammation has calmed down (not completely biut it's noticeably better), I am *way* more mentally clear, emotionally stable, open-hearted and mature. I used to have pretty bad anxiety and depression that I can't say I've experienced while sticking to this diet. The moment I eat something with sugar or grains in it, the anxiety returns, and my joints flare up with inflammation.

I did not read about the paleo diet and then take on its principles. I arrived naturally at this diet by observing which foods make me feel good, and which ones make me feel bad. Then one day, I came across the paleo diet on the internet and was like "Hey! This is what I already do! There's a *name* for my diet! Finally!" Open to any questions about reducing inflammation via diet alteration. I have a lot of personal experience in the area. YMMV, of course.

YMMV. Paleo is not for everyone, just as raw veganism is not for everyone. You can throw studies around all ya want, but it really boils down to what works for you. What you need to do is not be convinced of anything; you just should be open to changing your diet, if only experimentally, to see how you feel. Self-observation is key.

How much/often/strictly do you fast? I'm a big proponent of fasting (I aim for complete fasting 3/4 of the time), but I have a very different, fairly carb heavy diet and I get the same effects you do you - reduced RA inflammation, vastly improved physical and mental well being, etc.I'm wondering if your fasting habits might have more to do with that than your actual diet.

I learned about the paleo diet in a nutrition class last year.

I was definateley impressed, and really support the whole idea about it and everything.

BUT i don't DO diets.

I mix a little of every diet into my diet. I get plenty of fruits & veggies, but i eat more red meat than this would allow...and of course i can't go without processed foods.
