I have been taking maybe 2 lortab 10mg a day for almost 1 year straight now.Is that 2 much, should i slow down? I would love for opinions from other addicts. i'm not trying to sugar coat this in anyway but i just dont think it's that much since i know alot of people that take up to 4 a day and snorting oxycodone makes my addcition look like nothing.I actually really want to quit i'm only 21 and i started taking these when my mom almost died i think the depression is the reason i wont stop, but is 2 lortabs a day really that bad???

you're in a better position now than you'll ever be later or with a higher dose, by far, to get rid of the physical aspect of the addiction

you'll have withdrawal but it won't be as intense as if your dose was higher

i would ask a dr about an antidepressant if you feel like you need something for it. though they can feel stimulating, which isn't great for a taper/withdrawal

if you want to get off, i'd do it slowly so you still get a little sleep. although with that dose maybe a quick taper wouldn't be *too* disruptive

its not that high a dose and it would be the perfect time to quit as the obove poster said...

a few benzo's, some weed and maybe some seroquel or other sleep med and it should be a walk in the park, just dont switch addictions, and dont drink it only make the depression worse

edit: ohh yeah if you dont can get seroquel, mirtazapine or melperon is good too imo... melperon is calming and is also used to help with ligth widthdrawel symtoms..

edit2: i really think Melperon (methylperon) is a good med to take the edge of minor withdravels, so maybe you should check that out with your gp, its both given against anxiety and minor withdrawel symtoms course it is calming.. just got it from my doc last friday, and it really helped with the swicth from H to bupe..

i dont think you need bupe or methadone for such a small habit.. the meds i listed above would be all you need if any, you could easyly do it without after a small taper etc..

best of luck!

-im tapering with bupe atm.. so i feel your pain

maybe he isnt using it for the high? but to mask the depression or for pain.. just a guess i have no idea..

but its a good idea to stop sooner than later.. it only gets worse and there is no good outcome of opiate addiction

That's pretty small and weak, but can still have an impact withdrawl wise, I never did back down slowly, I just laid sleepless after 8 years of painkillers. It's easy to switch addictions, but try not to, if u can find some clonodiene(sp?) that could help. I had pills and patches. Otherwise I'd say benedryl, and some herb. as stated above, it'll be a walk in the park, but don't let those muggers out in the park drag u back to the starting line. Lol

even though it's a small dose, i think the duration of daily use is just as important as dose

honestly whether you think it or not your reallly lucky.... opiates are just a awesome awesome bitch that will fuck ur life up so yea quiting would be a good idea and all the advice above about gettin benzos and weed is good.

and no ur habit is a joke compared to REAL harcore opiate adicts who are throwen down 300-400 a day just to get well but who knows you could end up like that...

He's been doing the same amount every day for a year which tells me he wasnt doing it to get high, he was doing it to mask the depression as he explained & im assuming it did the job but he's worried he could move onto stronger meds which could happen so he wants to quit.

Ive always said if you can control yourself with opiates & use moderately & for other reasons than getting high as the original poster claims, then it could be done effectively but everyone knows it could get out of control just like alcohol, cocaine & so on.

Imo, you have done very well with only doing two 10's a day for a whole year. Most posters on this site after a year would need alot more to feel something after a year of constant use but like I said before, you used this med to cope with an issue & did it the correct way. As for anti-depressants, they do work for some people & you should look into them with your doctor.

20mg hydrocodone a day isn't a bad of a habit by a long shot, but in all likelyhood you will start needing higher doses if you continue to take them. You have a very good thing going even knowing that you have a habit and considering doing something about it. I would quit while you're still ahead, hopping off such a low dose of hydrocodone should be easy.

Agreed. As I have said elsewhere on the forum, I (reluctantly) decided to try one on my doctors advice, because the zopiclone was no longer working full stop.

Its called dosulepin, and its doing the job...I'm actually getting a full nights sleep for the first time in years, and I feel SO much better & am functioning just fine...no side effects.

Dosulepin is one of the older 'tri-cyclic' AD's (been around since the 60's...it has sedating/anti-anxiety/& pain killing properties.

IMO its the newer anti depressants (paxil etc) that cause problems & give anti depressants a bad name..

Dosulepin is not addictive either. But it does take a few weeks to really start working properly. Ask your doctor...

I'd have to say that breaking free from hydros were the worst withdrawls I've had to deal with. But yes they can easily get out of hand quicker than a heartbeat, ESP getting border and wanting a fun night, then it can get prettybad pretty quick.
At my highest times I was on the 75mcg fentanyl patch, orally taking 80mg methadone, and snorting 3 40mg oc every so often. I was out playing paintball one day and took a shot to my chest, didn't think much of it, but that nite I laid there throwing up, sick as he'll and I barely had the strength to pull my busted patch off. Turns out the paintball hit the spot. But then I decided to quit the fentanyl.

Damn....im assuming when the ball hit your patch, it released alot of the med inside instantly & you are lucky it didnt make you overdose, but it proved better for you since the harsh feeling made you quit.

^that wouldve been the best OD story.

OP, if you can keep taking two a day for as long as you plan to be on them, then cool. If you dont see that happening, quit now. Its said a million times a day on here, but the struggle im having with opiates right now is one of the worst things ive ever gone through and i wish id quit when the novelty wore off instead of keeping on just because.

I've got plenty more where that came from, but I'd hate to disrupt the point of the thread. I'm typing on my iPod touch as I don't have Internet yet at my house. I'm a fast Tyler, but on one of these babies? It's too long to tell. Maybe I'll type it up and save it to flash drive and post it, but I'd say my best story is prolly a tear jerker. And I do mean that!
But back to quitting... Dude u can only stay so low for so long and this low this long is awesome, but I had a $145,000.00 house, great job, position, great girl, persuing school, and had a work injury and was put on 10/325 hydros. And after a month I was already having issues staying at my dose, then my doc added the duragesic, then the vicodin was useless for breakthrough, then came the percs, followed by oc and methadone. In the end nobody could stand to be around me, I was changed, ended up losing my job, friends, house car, some family members cut me off, got a divorice... I know it's a bit off topic, but I went from having everything to losing everything I had worked for upto that point. So quitting now is thebest thing you coulddo for yerself. Now I have a son who I cleaned up for, and am self employed, and just got a house again. So after cleaning upmy life is getting back on track. I still dream of pills, and even feel the high in my sleep. Crazy shit!

doxepin could work also.. but tricylics can also make restless legs worse.
amitryptaline (sp) is also another one that could help.
and for tetra-cyclics trazadone is an option also.. i took 2 100mg tabs (which was the prescribed dose) and i felt so fucked up it was great.. oops i mean not even funny ;) .
clonidine is a definite its a blood pressure med that will stop (or help with) the hot/cold flashes, and calm you down a bit and help you sleep along with above mentioned meds and also a short term benzo script will be majorly helpful also.. theres my advice. good luck :D

i feel you on the losing everything part, cuz it also happened to me, vics, percs, then OC's and heroin.. lost everything i had. glad i have great grandparents who were there to pick me back up again and not disown me for stealing from them for money and got me on subs and been on since (3 years). but it's lonely when you hit rock bottom :\ .. OP you don't want this to happen to you.. like everyone has said, quit while you're ahead.
