So my parents found out i was doing heroin. I was only doing it for chronic pain that i've been trying to resolve for 4 years. Now they want to get me on pain management, which would have kept the heroin out of the picture to begin with.
Currently taking .5-1 mg suboxone insulfated a day which gets me feeling pretty decent and a little warm and fuzzy, and decently controls the pain. They arent aware of this.

Just wondering if a doc would even give me meds considering the history of heroin use (they just think it was a few times). I would think that since it was to avoid pain instead of get high(just a pleasant side effect) that they might see me in a different light.
I'm probably just going to tell the doc that i want to start with tramadol since i would buy it in mexico on vacation and it was aight at controlling my pain.

What do ya'll think? Will they leave me in pain forcing me to turn back to street drugs? I'm 19 years old by the way.

Man...

...If you're taking suboxone now, and it's legitimately working for your pain, why don't you just hit up a sub doctor and get a legitimate Rx? Yeah, it could be costly, depending on whether or not you have insurance, but it could work. And if I remember correctly, Purdue Pharma was approved to make a bupe patch made specifically for pain/pain management that's supposed to last seven days.

It's just an avenue you should consider checking out, especially if it's working. And it'll at least help keep you off of heroin, if that's what you want.

But as far as being "honest" with the doctor about heroin use, I wouldn't say a damn word about it. That doctor is going to hear heroin, and automatically label you as a drug seeker/abuser and flag you. That's just got bad news wrote all over it for you, and for your future. I wouldn't even mention the tramadol to him either, or at least leave out that you "bought it in Mexico and it helped."

Is turning back to street drugs a possibility? Yes, it always is.

Yea, if your not already flagged as a drug 'abuser' in your medical records, you dont ever want to be, so leave the heroin part out if you try for a pain management doc. Or as mentioned, just see a suboxone doc, and get a legit script for the stuff, especially if it already works for you, but in that case, you will have to go to the sub doc with the heroin story and tell them you want bupe maintenance therapy.
 
So if i was at the ER (self-admitted) and told them (stupidly) that i tried heroin b/c i was freakin out about HIV, am i pretty much a labeled drug-seeker for life? Damn i feel like such a dumbass..

...Of course that's not going to scream IV user. Even if that's why you weren't freaking out. That's what they're going to think.

When i asked if this would effect me getting into medical school or anything they said no, that abuse is completely different from addiction and they see it in a different light. Seems like they were feeding me bullshit. I was told that my medical record would be kept completely confidential.
I plan to stay clean after that occurence, and have not had any cravings.
I guess i'll let you know how it goes; hopefully they will sympathize a bit with my chronic pain and that it was a lapse.. fawk.
 
Do not mention your heroin use. As Law so eloquently put it, that's cockblocking you for life. You're 19 and if you mention your heroin use, you will red-flag yourself for the rest of your life.

Read through the pain management thread on this site before you talk to a single doctor. Do some thinking about what you're really trying to achieve. Be honest with yourself. A week of research and some soul-searching will be the best investment you can make if you're going to start the process of finding a PM solution.

I also think that if suboxone is taking care of your pain and deals with your cravings adequately, you have a close to perfect solution already.
 
I DIDNT mention it to a pain management doctor, but i was at the ER and accidentally admitted it b/c i was exposed to a high risk needle, they asked why and I said heroin without giving it any thought. So bam i assume its on my record b/c its on my discharge summary from the ER. The fuck-up already occurred.

Will a new doctor have access to this information? If not then i wont even mention prior drug use and just push for pain management drugs.
 
Well fuck. Its probably a crapshoot but the heroin use was a result of me being in constant pain and not achieving relief with 4 years of seeing docs and i just broke down. Made the biggest mistake of my life and used a dirty needle without knowing, went to ER and told them what happened..
I just want access to pain medication to legitimately control my pain without having to seek illegal alternatives.
I dont have a steady supply of suboxone to control my pain, only 8mg left which will last a couple weeks.
I am not physically dependant on heroin/opiates. But I the pain is ruining my life. Lack of relief sucks, and i turned to illegal opiates b/c i thought at my age i would have no chance at getting opiates for pain.
 
I just buy a suboxone from my friend every couple weeks. An 8mg pill lasts me over 2 weeks so i dont see the need for a doc, and only costs me the equivalent of ten small fries from mc Donald's.

I would say your bigger problem is the fact that you think of money in terms of "how many fries you could get from McDonalds".:o
 
Hahhah. Well i thought it was against rules to state prices so i just chose a dollar menu item and used that instead haha. Havent hit up the golden arches in quite a while
