Hi all! I was just diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in my left wrist on Monday. I knew I had a ganglion cyst on my left wrist but the carpal tunnel really surprised me. I've been waiting tables for 15 years and use my left hand to carry heavy plates/trays. Lately I've been experiencing extreme pain in my wrist, along with numbness and tingling (at night) and lack of grip. I can't really pick anything up with my left hand either without pain shooting up my arm. I was prescribed naproxen 500mg twice a day and hydrocodone 5mg/500mg, 1 every six hours as needed. I already called my doc today and let them know that the meds aren't working, that I'm still experiencing pain. They told me I can take more of the hydrocodone if needed and the nurse mentioned she'd have the doc prescribe me something stronger. I guess my question is what is normally done for pain like this? Are opiates the best option for PM? And if they are, how would I go about asking for something without the apap in it?
I really appreciate all the information. I tried searching online for PM for carpal tunnel but I really didn't get too much info on it. I can't afford any surgery at the moment so right now I have to find a way to deal with the pain so I can continue to work. I am already using a brace and in the process of learning how to carry trays with my right hand to lessen the amount of strain put on my left wrist and I can't even pick up my four year old daughter
Thank you all so much!
