PA, Philadelphia - 05.27.06 Saturday - Whistle @ Shampoo **REVIEW**

Sorry I missed you guys. I wood've liked to meet you ^^^

Anyway, Whistle was definitely good times. I went solo but met and had a lot of interesting chats with lots of people, and danced my ass off. I didn't get a chance to hear the Crystal Method, though, because I was in a different room and tripping face.

I noticed pretty much every type of raver was well represented. This one old school dude gave me a light show, and I remember I was overjoyed and thanked him for not being jaded. Not a lot of tweakers instigating shit. I didn't do e that night, but nobody I talked to had had a bad pill, so that's certainly a good sign.

A great start to the summer, IMHO.

I spent a fair amount of time looking for BLers and walking around the venue. Two of you said what you'd be wearing and Wood has his photos up here, so I definitely knew what to look for. The place was just too huge. I'll admit I was in the tent a lot, and I suspect y'all were in the d'n b room. I had a great time, though. Rolled through South Street earlier in the evening; got some Chinese food. It was pretty cool. I usually don't like DJ Icey -- there is something about Florida breaks that just seems trashy -- but he rocked out for the last few records.

Definitely, a great start to summer. :)

I don't think I met any bluelighters there.. at least, no one who recognized the name..

I was in the outside tent most of the night, right up front. It was mad hot inside, and too crowded for my mental state. The Crystal Method were pretty good, I've never caught one of their DJ Sets, so that was cool.

I was pretty fucked up from about that point on.. My legs still hurt from all the dancing. Irene got me moving non-stop.

Did anyone catch the guy doing the graffiti art?? That shit was pretty sick...

All in all it was a sick party. I agree 100%... Best way to kick off the summer EVAR!!!

yeah, that graffiti guy was great. he was doing a WTC tribute or something when i walked by. all with like a putty knife and three cans of paint. the fumes from the spray paint kept me moving on, though.

^^^yeah, the graffiti guy was great, but I was REAL surprised that he wasn't wearing a mask. Guess he goes by the philosophy of "only the strong survive."

As for the music, THE WOOD and I were mainly chilling at the bar of the d&b area until it closed. The opening DJs were not bad, but nothing special either. The beginning of POTD's set was quite good, but the place was very crowded and I actually had more space to dance in the alcoholic area than on the dancefloor(not that I could have left it with a beer in my hand anyways). I had meant to check out Icey and Danny the Wild Child but I guess beer took precedence. Then we went to check out Crystal Method with starlightgemini. It was very disappointing. Their mixes were lackluster and the track selection wasn't great either. I had to make a conscious effort to keep on dancing because the music definitely wasn't driving me most of the time. In fact, the entire crowd was kind of still :X Then we went back for the end of POTD's set which was very good, despite the fact that the breakdowns were too frequent for my taste. My main beef about the d&b area was that every single MC was either mediocre or straight up terrible. All in all it was nonetheless a good party. The afterparty, however, was a disappointment because they made us until an hour after Whistle ended before starting to let people in, and by that point the line filled the parking lot. We ended up ripping joints in the lot while waiting, and then deciding not to go in because the music coming outta the joint sounded pretty bad. Unfortunately everything in Philly is closed on Sunday mornings so we couldn't find a diner to sate our stimulated appetites :(

^^^ Yeah a couple of those MCs drove me nuts. One of them just couldn't keep pace with the rhythm, another I heard had a voice that was nigh on intolerable.

I basically wandered from room to room randomly. I missed Crystal Method, but from what you and others have said, I have no regrets about this.

The afterparty was... meh. I actually arrived there in time to get in before 7AM -- I was still tripping chops as morning broke and this transsexual in line in front of me was flirting with me despite my hints. Surreal. I found the music to be OK, but something about the setting just wasn't right. I just couldn't see the rooms of Emerald City club as good headspaces, no matter how hard I tried. The whole afterparty was poorly orchestrated -- there was no need to keep people waiting like that.

Went with my fiancee to the party. All the rest of our crew backed out so we took the train from Richmond to Philly. Missed DJ Dan which sucked. Really wished Micro would have been there. Thought Irene was bangin. The rooms of the club were small which made dancing hard at times. Enjoyed meeting and talking to people. Overall I had a really good time. Didnt get too faced but was feelin pretty good. Missed out on the naked girl drama! Whew! Hope she ended up ok though. Wish I could have met some of you. Maybe some of you saw me. http://www.bluelight.ru/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=38680&cat=500&ppuser=75714
