yes hello.

first and foremost, you will have to forgive me if my manner of speaking seems somewhat impersonal, i've come to notice that i am not very wonderful at socializing with those whom i do not have a pre-established friendship, so i may come across as a little awkward. my bad and such.

as to me: i go by ozz. i inhabit the wonderful place that has come to own the moniker of "central texas"; more specifically, i live in the (debatably) wonderful capital city, austin.
i've been lurking on bluelight for a long time unregistered, as i come here easily five to ten times a day when searching various substance related questions that occur to me throughout the day. i figured it's about time for me to actually jump in and see if i can get involved, maybe learn some new things, and meet some new people while i'm at it.

so, as made clear, i'm pretty much here to learn, and maybe meet some other folks who i might be able to form a lasting friendship with. well, that, and, having a niche for me to escape to on certain days when i have a deep desire to actually interact with people who, although they may be completely different from myself, have one of my core features in common with me: the desire to consume mind altering substances.

i haven't had a whole laundry list of substances done in the past, it mostly just adds up to cannabis, mdma, psilocybin, the various synthetic cannabinoids (i had a deep problem with this.), and methamphetamines (same), but, i've realized lately that it may help me at least realize some aspects of it a little more effectively by interacting with others who can speak for having used such substances.

i like to fashion myself a psychonaut, sailing the seas of cheese. er, perception.

oh, also, i make music.

let's be friends.

(fuck what else was i going to say hm...)

oh wait i'm still typing. uh, well, it's a pleasure to be a member of this magnificent forum.
here's to hopeful activity for an indeterminate amount of time into the future!
and then sporadic periods of being away for an equally indeterminate amount of time because i have a tendency to withdraw into my mind for somewhat disparate gaps of time.

it's nice to meet you all.

G'day from Oz Ozz :)

How long were you lurking around for? Glad you made the jump and made an account, sounds like you'll make friends here easily, this is a good place to refine social skills even if it is just text based, you engage in some really great in-depth conversations around here that just make you go wow. What kind of music do you make? I'm into making minimal, I'm keen to learn what kind of DAW and VSTs you got if you make electronic stuff. Let me know. :)

If you need any help around the site or anything (did you want your thread title changed? I see something there in the edit haha) just send me a message.

well, i can't exactly put a good amount on how long i was lurking around for because a lot of it was just zooming through random topics that came up on google. but, if a make a few assumptions, namely that i would view 5-10 posts a day and spend 10-20 minutes reading through each one (averages suck because of those posts that are mostly barren of content but y'know), and in any given week it would occur at least 5 days of the week, that's a max of three hours a day spent, more realistically two hours a day, 5 days a week, so... 40 hours a month give or take? i think i'm taking this too seriously. the point is, it was a while.

in any case, it's pleasant to know that i will be in an environment where social engagement will be, eh, less stressful. it would be nice to reap the actual benefits of friendship. as to what i make, it really depends on my mood; mostly i classify it under umbrella terms like edm or hip-hop, but my inspirations tend to come from a lot of different places; i have a soft spot in my heart for aleatoric composition and the general chaos of the world around me, so there's almost always chaotic and unstable elements to the productions. i also have a very deep amount of respect for minimalism, so i try and invoke some minimalist influence in everything i do, typically it comes through in the mixing process, as i find i am very unable to compose compelling ostinati or riffs or vamps or whatever you may want to call them.

as per daw, i bounce around between a few; my favored triumvirate happens to be fl studio, ableton live 9, and renoise; it gives me a nice access to the whole spectrum of sound. i also do a lot of production on my android phone using an app entitled "Caustic 3". so, i pick and choose depending on my mood. as per vst's, i don't tend to rely on any specific ones too often, because my approach is literally downloading about 4-5gb of whatever random free vst's i can find on the internet, getting them all recognized, then trying them randomly throughout future sessions. woo! though i do like sylenth, it has such a beautiful synth engine (and it sounds pretty too!); there are a few other plugs i've messed with, like massive and the like, but i think it's just way too heavy for my purposes. i would highly recommend certain suites of plugins, though, like the tweakbench suite, but that's mostly because i've used those since i started and they're like family to meeeeeee

it is a pleasure to meet you, friend.

believe me, i am not one to let a good resource fall by the wayside, so i am sure if questions do arise, contact is a given. :D
