Opioids Oxymorphone & Nightmares

Hey,

I've recently begun to experiment with oxymorphone - love it to death, all the 'tales' are true I'm happy to say, but one thing's been really shocking me. I've been nodding out, or sleeping, and will wake up after the most realistic and horrifically violent and psychologically terrifying nightmares I've ever had in my life. No joke, they rival some of the experiences on salvia I've had that, to willingly repeat, would borderline masochism.

There was an interesting thread around here, or maybe it was in ADD, regarding opiates and sleep. Being that I've done just about every opiate/opioid out there except for a few of the ridiculous analogues of fentanyl and the like and never experienced such vivid nightmares as I do with oxymorphone, it begs the question, have people found this to be a problem moreso with oxymorphone than with other opiates??

I love it and yet I'm literally afraid to do it again based on what my mind has contrived in the depths of sleep.

Never had it happen from any opioid, oxymorphone included, but even so I would gladly put up with nitemares to use it. I've never had anyone tell me they've experienced it either.
 
I kno mad ppl including myself that do opanas never heard o violent nightmares man most of my dreams on any opiate are about getting or finding opiates haha viciuos cycle
 
First, what a well-written post. I'm impressed...

But yes, dreaming vivid, oftentimes frightening dreams is not all too uncommon a thing, at least not in my experience and maybe not so much to the degree you've described. But it does happen, and more so with oxymorphone than other opiates. I'm not too sure exactly as to the reason why, but oxymorphone does seem to have that heavier, dreamier and more sedating quality to it.

Maybe someone with greater insight will chime in soon.
 
this is just speculation but oxymorphone is thought to increase serotonin more than most other opiates and in general raising serotonin with certain things is known to cause nightmares (5htp).
 
Honestly, the only experience that I had close to that was while taking suboxone...Ive taken a great deal of opiates in my time and its never happened.......While taking suboxone i would be in the process of falling asleep and it feels like something is holding me down stopping me from moving. It feels like im shaking like a seizure but in reality Im just fuckin laying there. I would wake up and gasp for air and ask myself WTF was that?!?!?! I thought for a while I was having like night seizures or something...I was pretty scared but willing to make the sacrafice, just not too look long term opiate abuse withdrawal in the face quite yet.... This happened for a little while (not every night) and then it just wore off and I was okay.....but regarding nightmares and dreaming I might have but I honestly don't remember....what kind of dreams are they, my girlfriend knows a great deal about dreaming and anything oriented
 
When I was doing Oxymorphone about 80-100mgs a day when I would nod off my dreams would be very realistic, like I was experiencing them. But never freighting. I get the same thing on oxycodone tho also.
 
When I nod I have vivid dreams but not nightmares most of the time. Although, whenever I was going through withdrawals I always had crazy nightmares. I was using Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only for months due to legals so Mon - Thurs I would be sick, every week so I have a lot of experience with withdrawal. For some reason they were more prevalent when I was coming off oxycodone, which is metabolized into oxymorphone, but there must be a difference. You know how dreams that feel like forever can only take up seconds in the waking world? I would be in a constant vivid, lucid dream state, especially the day after my last dose. If I quit cold turkey and didn't wean myself down I would usually be on a bender, staying up for 2 or 3 days, getting high, I would sleep the whole next day, literally upwards of 20 hours. I felt like I was in "dream world," for days. It was one of the craziest experience of my life. Also, I would sometimes dream of getting the drug if I had had problems acquiring it recently. I would always get arrested or get fake shit, it sucked really.
 
I don't find I experience vivid nightmares while on oxymorphone.
I do find however that oxymorphone w/d's cause me vivid nightmares.
Had that experience last night again actually. Coming off wearing fent patch & oxymorphone on top of it.
Terrible vivid nightmares. Which I attributed to the oxymorphone.
Not sure if it matters but they were used for pain mgmt. though in doses most people would find recreational.
I believe your referring to nightmares while the oxymorphone is still effecting you though.
If so I don't know about that as I've never had any problems while still under it's effect in that regard.
 
Thank you all for your insight. To clarify a bit, I guess, they are nightmares (night terrors, maybe?) that are so horrific and gruesome and just - *not* characteristic of me, at all. It's like being inside the mind of a serial killer with a twinge of PCP-inspired sadism. And these visions, so to speak, were not present in my mind before using oxymorphone, and I have yet to experience any dreaming of the sort since my last dose of it about a week ago.

That one thread I had happened upon (yet tragically forget the name of) had one poster who posited a plausible link between the pharmacology and biochemistry of opioids and how the human brain initiates, interprets and responds to sleep and the stages of dreaming. In this wide scope, there was an established link between opiates and nightmares. I found it quite curious that it was so obviously a direct result of ingesting oxymorphone that I would experience nightmares of the intensity, brutality and reality of those I'd had over the past week, and yet how I had never, ever attributed disturbing images to any other opiate or opioid before. My thread is not so much a bash on oxymorphone; hell no, in fact, because I love it!! But I am really fascinated by this - however, if the majority of others have not experienced similar phenomena from oxymorphone, then it must be attributable to some amalgamation of unique genetic freak occurrences in my gray matter, then ;)

Your product may be contaminated. I would give it a wash with ether, acetone or hexane but it doesn't guarantee to remove it. I know this because I've used contaminated codeine in the past and got huge nightmare scenarios like killing my own parents, getting shot in the head with a large caliber or burning alive locked inside a heating furnace. As soon as I did a CWE and used fresh codeine, the nightmares were gone.
 
Ive pretty much every pharmaceutical opiate out there a good amount and i never got any nightmares from opana and thats probably what i used the most. morphine on the other hand used to give me the most vivid dreams when i slept and as far as having really vivid dreams when nodding i havent had that since i first started using and thats the very nod i chase now the euphoria nodding in and out of those dreams is just too spectacular for words. fuckin opiates

I appreciate your advice but your response doesn't make sense to me - I do not mean for you to take that offensively, Ksa. I just need clarification. What do you mean by 'contaminated'? These were Endo Pharmaceutical yellow octagonal 40mg oxymorphone ER tablets. It wasn't as if I had been given a dime bag with white powder in it having been told it was Opana, crushed up or something.

What was your stuff 'contaminated' with?? CWE are usually used to remove acetaminophen from opioid preparations that contain it in combination with a synthetic, extractable opioid. But no poisons....
