Oxycodone withdrawal

Hi Everyone, I am new to bluelight, but not to drugs. I am 22 and have been using for 8 years. I have been doing oxycodone for 10 months straight and can do up to 60mg at a single dose and usually do 120mg a day or less. I want to stop using opioids, but I am wondering how bad the withdrawals will be and how long they will last (given my current tolerance and length of time using). I also have plenty of xanax, valium, klonapin and ativan to ease the wd's. Rehab is not an option.
Can anyone shed some light on the subject? I'd really appreciate any input/info.

they wont kill you thats for sure, and your habit isnt the worst around so you should be fine with all those benzos. if you can take it go cold turkey. then use the benzos as needed. although you dont wanna get addicted to those. the w/ds from them are worse than oxy.

5 days is usually how long w/d goes for me... day 6 i start to feel normal again and want to have sex and eat food.

day one isn't too too bad but you start to feel the effects (tearing eyes, tense muscles, a little anxiety), then day two is pretty shitty, day three is usually the worst for me, that or day four, and day five you start feeling a little better.. and day six i usually feel normal. i took oxy for 1.5 years daily dosing ranging from 15mg to 100mg a day, and the last few months were IV'd.

and i've had benzos during withdrawal + gabapentin (most times) + imodium + naproxen + cannabis (most times) + clonidine (most times), etc.. .they help a lot. sounds like you can get good benzos, i'd do so but be careful about addicting to them...its a bitch and w/d is a lot worse than opiates and lasts longer at least for me (with klonopin 3+ year addiction)

Tapering is hopefully an option, It'll greatly help as it has many others. For me, I have about the same habit as you just a few less months.

When i decide to stop for a while I'll grab a bunch of perc's (oxy/apap) or hydrocodone, some ativan or valium, and some ambien to taper with as I find them easier to stick on track with (as if i grab 80's than I'll be tempted to just crush up the whole thing and blow it instead of just a little part while with percs and hydro). They take the withdrawal away but are not tempting.

Day 1: Don't take anything, let withdrawal come on and take a lil benzos and ambien to help sleep.
Day 2-4: I'll take 15mg when I wake up and 15mg around 8 or so hours later to keep the withdrawal at bay, you may need more.
Day 5-7: Take 10mg less than previously, still spaced out, also take loperamide as needed and stool softener(immodium ac, helps cure diarhea and stool softener if poop is rock solid], benzos if needed.
Day 8-10: Drop another 10mg per day and keep same schedule, you should start feeling normal again and more energetic
Day 11: Take 5 mg and then stop taking the opiates completely.

By this point you should start to feel basically normal or may experience a minor withdrawal from gettin back to 0. Loperamide really helps and also it actually helps with the withdrawal aspect not just the shits. Take ambien or another sleeping pill as needed and make sure your eating normally, the worst thing is to go into w/d's with no energy and to feel like you can't even get up. Try excersizing during it too

man that must take some strong mental power to have percs and use them for detox. im sure it may work for some but i say bite the bullet and tough it out opiate free. just have a nice comfy bed by the toilet with vitamins and fluids to tie you over. should start feeling human again within a week, and by two weeks with short acting opiates youll be feeling pretty damn good again. but dont mistake this for a weakness to use! OPIATES ARE A GREAT LOVER BUT A HORRIBLE MASTER.

Thanks so much for the help, it gives me confidence to know that people who have gone thru the same thing are willing to give me their advice and support. I really like immaturepoop's quote too, it is soooo true. I feel like I can do this, and when I do (very soon) I'll post how it went. Thanks so much again.

Oh one more question...will I be able to care for my 4 month puppy while this is happening? Or should I let my lover take care of him?

I don't think you will even want to look at your puppy. The anxiety is the worst it makes the smallest things like your favorite song sound like fingernails on a chalkboard. If you decide to taper make sure to stick with it, don't give in to your supply. Im considering a taper currently so i can keep going to work. Ugh this is gonna suck but we will overcome! Lets get healthy, -Spaz-

Also, suboxone...if i'm able to get my hands on any of these will this help? I've heard it is the best way to go but want some advice before I take a wd specific substance.

I would strongly recommend you at least try to cold turkey before you get on subs. Some (most) people think that withdrawal from suboxone is worse than OC. It definetly lasts longer. With subs you are still taking a very powerful opiate, you just don't feel any euphoria. It is very good for keeping the sick away.

The reason I take subs is I couldn't take time off work (end of the quarter and I am in sales) and I was about to run out of money and be very sick. Basically, I did it to keep my job, so if that applies to you, maybe consider it. Also my habit was at least 5-7x what yours is.

Try and kick cold turkey. It will definitely suck though. Get all the benzo's and other WD meds, soup, bananas, yogurt and gatorade before you start kicking if you can. And DVD's and books. Basically you get to plan in advance for the worst flu ever and then some.

Good luck and we are here for you. I like your username too.

yea its very very helpful if your trying to quit. It's actually really strong, i think like 35 times more potent than morphine. It has a long half-life. A very low dose, depending on ur habit, will hold you over for an entire day. But there's no euphoria, no itch, and you don't feel high. The good news is you feel perfectly fine, no aches and pains ,no cold sweats or any other physical/mental withdrawal symptoms. One plus is that it works as an anti-depressant in a way cuz it elevates your mood a lot. etc. And you don't crave nearly as much. If you can get some and you don't think you could quit cold turkey, suboxone works wonders. But yeah it's def true that sub withdrawal is bad in itself so you should really only use it to ween if you have to. Using Sub is basically like prolonging the inevitable...

Oh yea, keep in mind it has naloxone in it which is basically an anti-abuse mechanism. it prevents injection and if you try to shoot/bump H or other opiates it kick starts withdrawal even worse than before, so you feel like shit if u relapse.

Ya feel for you man I always have to go turkey because I can't hold and taper my stash. Otherwise I would never have to withdraw. But when I do I try and stop on thursday because fri. isn't to bad then, I have the weekend to recover, and by Monday I'm pretty good and back to normal by tuesday.
Then I just have to wait till fri. again to get my next script. But make sure you drink lots of gaterade and make sure you eat healthy..
Good luck man we know you'll make it through

I am in w/d right now. It seems that taking small doses of dxm are helping. I dose throughout the day, a few swigs each time from cough syrup. I am also taking a ton of vitamins. The first night was the worse. This is day three and I feel fair but not yet normal.

Also on the suboxone. That shit can work wonders if you stick to 2 laws of that drug.
1. At your tolerance, I can't see starting out at any more than 4mg 6 max. Do not let doctor start you at a high dose. It is completely unnessary and dangerous(for addiction purposes) in most cases. Doctors don't really know suboxone just yet as well as they should.
You will feel fine and best of all, most people don't crave opiates. Therefore it can actually alter your behavior, looking for pills/dope, snorting, shooting etc. Which is an amazing ally to getting better.

2. The second law is take it for no more than 3 weeks. Do a taper from say 6mg down to crumbs. And in the last week, actually skip whole days of dosing. You will not w/d and when you stop you may feel a little blah but could avoid most w/d symptoms.

yes, the oxy withdrawals are a bitch. i was very depressed, easily agitated and could NOT sleep. I took about 150 mg a day and ran out. SO I went cold turkey. That was about a month and a half ago.

I am on them still for back trouble and my wife is helping me alot by dosing it for me - 4 10mg a day. I want to get off of them though, because of their nature. They are very strong and work for pain but I am a person who loves to get high on anything I can. I dont need to have my life messed up...i have my own house, a great job, a great wife and two great kids. I plan on tapering off beginning Tuesday.

I still have flexeril and a TENS unit for the back pain and am hoping they work adequately for me. If not, I'll have to try something else besides oxy, or darvocet, or hydros. I have tried them and dont like them either.
