Oxycodone to Hydrocodone Cross-Tolerance/Immunity to Hydrocodone

A few months ago I was having some problems feeling hydrocodone, and I believe it was due to a medication that I am no longer taking. I used to take hydrocodone quite frequently in the past before I was taking the med as well. About 2 weeks ago, I took 20mg and felt great. I was very happy that I could finally feel it again. However, this past Saturday, I took 80mg of oxycontin orally after grinding it down and keeping it in the freezer (I know that more has to be done to beat the time release, but I didn't have much time). Anyways, today is Monday and I acquired 5 10mg norcos. I started off with 2 and took a third about 30 mins after. I wasn't feeling anything after an hour and a half, so I took 2 more, making the total amount 50mg. I barely felt anything, and even that small amount lasted for a very short period of time. I was wondering that if in anyway the 80mg of oxycodone 2 days ago could have boosted my tolerance enough so that I would barely feel the norcos. If not, is it possible for me to have somewhat of an immunity to hydrocodone, and if so, has anybody else experienced this? It's verrrry frustrating to spend several hours driving and sitting in traffic to come home and end up with an empty wallet and feeling sober, haha. Thanks in advance for any help!

they are cross-tolerant but one dose two days ago is not responsible for you not being able to feel a dose that usually gets you high.

It's probably not so much that you didn't feel it as it was you didn't feel what you expected. If you had taken 80mg of Oxycodone only two days prior, your sensitivity to the drugs has been greatly diminished. And 50mg of Hydrocodone is substantially less potent than 80mg of Oxy; subsequently the effects you experienced were comparitively mild.

That is a good point morphonic, but I am quite well versed with hydrocodone and opiates in general and the effects were barely noticeable. I would agree with what you said, but when I did the 20mg 10 days ago, I was struggling not to nod off. And since this dose was more than double, even though the oxy was a total of 80mg split into 2 doses about 3 hours apart, I just can't see it diminishing the effects to that much of an extent. I'll try giving it at least 4 days before I try hydrocodone again without an other opiates in that period. Thanks for your input.

Did you have a full stomach? That greatly reduces the effects of opiates for me.. any thing else that may have interfered with it? As hydro said, one single dose of oxy a couple of days before shouldn't have interfered.. if you use opiates regularly of course your tolerance will go up, but it is strange that 10 days ago you were nodding off 20mg. I hope it is a one off random thing for you!

my experience is that once i got pretty heavy on the opiate train, no matter how long of a break i take i cant seem to take enough vicodin to get high before taking too much APAP and getting sick. hydrocodone just doesnt do a thing for me anymore. im sure if i could take 50mg pure hydrocodone itd get me high unless i had tolerance.

In response to Effie, I had eaten a decently sized meal about 2 and a half hours prior to taking it. Also, I know that redosing opiates can be inneffective too. I started off with 20mg, and about 30 minutes later I decided to add another 10mg. It was an hour and a half after the first dose that I wasn't feeling it and took another 10mg. Maybe that caused it to not be that strong. At about 5 hours after dosing, I actually did end up feeling the high a little bit, so maybe it was a combination of those factors?
