So I recently got a good supply of oxycodone for the first time in my life, and I thought, being the generous man I am, that I'd share my thoughts with y'all. I'd tried oxy before, but just a little here, a little there, never enough to experiment or fully appreciate it. First a little background: I'm a veteran opioid user, and they're my favorite drugs. They make me happier, more talkative, motivated, outgoing, and at ease in situations where I could never normally feel comfortable in. I have less inhibitions and am more likely to do the right thing or break out of habit. In short, they make me more the person I want to be.
Oxycodone has quite a distinct high:
Oxycodone has quite a distinct high:
- It's especially clearheaded. Most opioids leave me with varying degrees of lightheadedness, a spacey or 'out of it' feeling -- propoxyphene (Darvocet)and hydrocodone (Vicodin) are especial offenders. Heroin does it too at high doses. With oxy, nothing.
- It's relatively free of side effects, allowing the high to get up to heroin levels. Never noticed any nausea, particularly bad itchiness, or anything else, even when taking enough to nod off.
- It seems more stimulating than other opiates. The high is somewhat reminiscent of the yearning feeling I get from stims. It actually seems to make me much more talkative and social -- codeine does this too -- where I want to talk to people I normally wouldn't have any interest in at all.
- All in all I don't enjoy it on its own that much -- I prefer heroin. Oxy seems to last shorter, and leaves me feeling unfulfilled -- like I ought to be higher -- which I don't get with heroin.
- IV use is pointless. There is a rush, which is distinctly different from heroin: both far less intense and less pleasant. However the main effects of the drug seem to slowly kick in over a period of ~5 minutes after the shot. This makes sense if it's getting bioconverted to oxymorphone and/or takes a while to cross the BBB, since it's not as lipophilic as heroin.
- Finally, I found a 1:1 combination of heroin and oxy to be wonderful. I got this idea from Soviet, remembering he said that was his best shot, and I gotta agree that's it prety damn good. The euphoria was just significantly more intense than with either alone. Plus I was more wakeful: I could lie down and relax, start to nod, yet be wakeful enough to fully remember and appreciate the intense bliss. Or I could get up, accomplish things, and be social. I wouldn't be able to get that level of euphoria from heroin without taking enough that I could barely resist falling asleep.
- There's even a cute little scientific explanation for most of this, too. There are three main types of opioid receptors -- mu, delta, and kappa. Most opioids, including heroin, mainly work at the mu receptor. Oxycodone however also has very significant activity at the kappa receptor: so it's kind of expected that the combination of mu+kappa would be especially fun. (The delta receptor unfortunately seems to produce dysphoria, eg unhappiness.) Incidentally I recall reading women are more sensitive to kappa-based analgesia than men, so perhaps women would enjoy oxycodone and other strong kappa agonists more than men.
