OK this is a pretty to the point question, and it would be great if someone could respond with their opinion asap because my appointment is in an hour.

So to make things short and sweet I'll just lay the facts out on the table: I'm addicted to oxycodone (oxycontin), generally anywhere from around 60-120 mg daily. I have an eye doctor appointment today and am currently in withdrawals and have a line already prepared for me, but I'm scared of what the eye doctor might think when he goes to look at my eyes and my pupils are all pinned out. Mind you it's not the "real" eye doctor, I go to the optometrist at Sam's Club so they don't ever put that dye in my eye or dilate my eyes or anything like that, they just do the standard vision test and these two other ones where they look at your eyeball for one and the other they blow air into your eye.

If I go there after doing some oxy will it be super obvious or do you think the eye doctor will just assume it's a reaction from the bright lights in the store?

I couldn't find any answers to this on bluelight or google.

I've wondered about this myself. I am almost sure any doctor would know something was up when he or she examines your eye and notices your pupil is contracted the entire time, regardless of light variance. They know eyes, to put it simply. But whether or not they'd make the connection between miosis and Opiate use is hard to say.

But if they did make the connection (or assumption) that it was a result of opiate use, there's really nothing they can do except call you out (if they choose), right?

Nope, other than possibly asking you if you have a drug problem. My gut tells me they won't make the correlation, though.

ha, i used to wonder about this a lot too- i think it's probably the reason i didn't actually visit the eye doctor for like 2 years (called every couple months and begged for one more box of contacts, "this is the last time, i'm writing the appointment time down now," etc.)

thinking about it now though, wtf would the eye doctor care if you were on opiates? i mean, if the eye doctor did in fact notice and comment on your eyes, i sincerely doubt the he/she would think twice about you saying, "yeah, i'm on these pain meds for my back..."

your eyes will respond to light / drops for dilation, just slower. No big deal.

p.s. even Sam's Club Optometrists are "real" doctors (a family member of mine is one). Usually they're just out of school, and have not established their own practice yet.

oh yeah definitely I know, sorry I meant no disrespect I was just talking about how like they don't have all the fancy shmancy technology that the like actual eye doctor places have.

You guys should be careful with this, I did some opiates the other day and went to see the eye doctor. Within minutes of being examined the doctor asked me if i was on any medication. I hesitated and said no, then he started to ask other questions and such until the truth came out. Then, next thing I know he calls my dr to let them know I am abusing opiates, and the dr stated they didn't prescribe them, so they called the cops and I had spent the last 2 months in jail because of this...

ok im just kidden, an eye dr wouldn't even give a fuck if they knew you were doing heroin.

^ lol -- some of you on BL are fucking hilarious

I have a friend who's pupils are always pinned out though he's not on anything. Also, another has dinner-plate pupils constantly; add that to his general 'spaced-out' personality and he was searched for drugs constantly back in the days of school because they were convinced he was on something.

Point is, people have pupils that do random shit. I'm sure an eye doctor would know this and dismiss any drug-related pupil dilation/contraction as normal before assuming anything else. Even then, what are they gonna do?
