Oxycodone length of effects...

Status
Not open for further replies.
The desire to redose varies among individuals

Oxycodone typically lasts 4 hours. It has been known to vary between individuals and last 2-6 hours, though

The Oxycontin formulation, however, typically lasts 12 hours. People have reported it lasting 6, 8, 10, 12, or 14 hours

I definitely do not thing you will get an answer better then what Addyman has said, it is really based on the individual. Best rule of thumb from our perspective relating to harm reduction is do not take the medication more then how it is prescribed by your doctor. If you find that it's not covering your pain for the length of time as suggested by your Dr then contact him and let him know, perhaps he can change the script for you.

It still depends on the individual, remember this site is here as a harm reduction site, not a site to condone your recreational use, no one here can tell you how often you should dose. The best any of use can tell you is how it effects us, and addyman pretty much gave you the run down. Recreation or not, it depends on the person.

I can even add a bit more for you

Just because analgesia (pain relief) or euphoria wears off doesn't mean the physical effects still aren't working

Adderall or Meth is an example

Some can take an Adderall IR, get high for 2-4 hours... Heart could pound for 8 hours
Some people could smoke meth, get high for 2-4 hours... Heart pounds for 15 hours

Varies

And as I said before, a GENERALIZED answer would be

TYPICALLY Oxycodone is 4 hours
TYPICALLY Oxycodone in Oxycontin is 12 hours

Opiates are really "phasic" drugs. If taken orally, the most stimulation is usually felt in the beginning or the come-up, and the noddy effects tend to come on later, but some of the effects can last beyond the euphoria. It doesn't take a large opiate dose to produce constipation or supression of cough, but a higher dose is needed for pain relief, and a slightly higher dose is often needed for desired euphoria, and sometimes a higher dose is needed for nodding. I don't know if you get what I am saying by comparing doses and effects, but it is similar to comparing time after consuming an opiate and the effects. Different, but kinda the same idea. First time I did oxycodone, I did 5 mg, and the next morning (like 18 hrs. later) I was still having crazy opiate dreams.

Also are you talking straight Oxycodone? or Oxycodone with APAP (ie percoset)? I am only asking because if your taking it recreationaly and it's only lasting you say 2 hours and then you redose to get that high, you can risk OD of the APAP. I actually wrote an entire post regarding narcs with APAP. But I must stress that this is still a very individual response so there for I'm trying to understand the purpose of the question. Are you just trying to take a poll to see on average how long the high lasts so you can use that to gauge how often you should redose? Because if so, it does't quite work that way.

No it doesn't contain any APAP.

I had 20mg IR Oxynorm Capsule 2 and a half hours ago and the euphoria has more or less worn off. I still have some IR liquid that I am going to redose with soon, maybe just 5mg.

I'm not using other people answers to gauge how often I myself should redose, was just curious as to how long it lasted for other people because apart from my first time taking it, it doesn't seem to last very long.

I might mention a 30-40mg oxy IR single dose can kill an opiate nontolerant person

I wouldn't say I had a massive tolerance to opiates.

I started using Oxycodone about a fortnight ago and have used it about 6 times, 15mg first time then 20mg's thereafter.

I usually smoke a joint with it to enhance the high, however I have no weed.

I had 20mg's last night also.

I might also add that I weigh like 14 and a half stone so I'm not a small lad.

when i first started, 10-15 mgs would have me good for 4-6 hours. now 30mgs gets me going for more like 2-3 hours :/

Generally the euphoria of narcs like oxycodone do not last a very long time but it all depends on the ROA (Route of administration) and the BA (Bioavailability) of that drug once it enters the system. On top of that it also depends on the individual taking the drugs. For some people esp someone who is quite new to taking the drug then the euphoria should or could last a little longer. But with almost all drugs, you may find your self "chasing the high" meaning that you will never get the same high you got from your first time and you may have to increase the dosage to get there due to tolerance building. Either way OxyNorm capsules, liquids and injections are short-acting forms of oxycodone. OxyNorm capsules and liquids need to be taken every four to six hours to provide continuous pain relief. So you certainly will not get long term euphoria from it. And if this is your first time using it, try not to play to much with fire, you will wind up getting burned in the long run.

Again you have to understand that my answers are going to be on behalf of harm reduction to yourself as that is what tis site is for. Noone can tell you not to take the drug in a way that it was to be prescribed or to not to use it for strictly recreational purposes, but since you are going to do it anyway, we are going to try and keep you educated so that you minimize the harm that you can due to yourself when using it in such a way. That's why I'm telling you that since this drug is a very short acting drug, the euphoria is going to be short. That doesn't mean that you should increase your dose or take it more then the minimum of every 4-6 hours. You now have the knowledge to make your own decisions as to how your going to take it and I urge you to do it with caution.

I'm not going to post on this thread anymore as I do not believe that there is anything more to be gained by continuing with this thread.

Welcome to tolerance!! You've just been inducted to the I have opiate tolerance club! lmao :)

When it comes to Opiates, it depends on what you are looking for when it comes to how long it lasts. For me personally, I use recreationally, so I'm looking for euphoria. Generally, that will last me about an hour or two, then I find the desire to redose. However, if your looking for pain relief, you could say the effects last for 4 to 6 hours. Again, depends on what you're looking for.

He has made it clear he's using it recreationaly and not for pain relief, which I why I stated I was done with this thread as it's pretty much already been answered a couple times within this thread and were now beating the poor dead horse. :(

Excellent idea my friend. Do you think we can close this thread since you pretty much have your answer? I mean it's your post but from a harm reduction point of view there isn't anything more I believe that can be or should be added. I'm not a mod and I can not close it, but I try to help the mods out when possible as they have enough work to do :)
