Opioids Oxycodone, Brief Dilaudid Switch - Does This Affect Tolerance?

I do one 30 mg oxycodone a day (for about six months) and recently had surgery, they gave me dilaudid. I heard eight mg of dilaudid would be equivalent to 30 mg oxycodone so I started doing that but I have heard dilaudid has a longer half-life, does this mean that when I get withdrawal it will be worse? Did I somehow throw my tolerance/body off track by switching opioids?

Depends on ROA imo. I can only speak from experience, but when I do hydromorphone 8-12mg (IV), I feel like I start detoxing faster (but not worse) than had I taken 60-90mg oxy/roxi (IV), I think because a dilaudid high is slightly shortlived... again imo, lol. I'm sure it differs from person to person, but hydromorphone is pretty strong stuff imo.

Dilaudid (hydromorphone) has a much shorter half life than oxycodone. The withdrawals you'll get from Dilaudid will be slightly more severe but they will be much shorter.

Yes but will switching these affect my tolerance? Its been pretty steady for months.

It's possible, there's no way to tell other than trying it out though.

I have come to believe that generally the more fast acting potent opiates raise your tolerance the quickest. So if the dilaudid has a quicker onset than the oxy it will generally raise your tolerance slightly. It also depends on your ROA, for example if you IV the oxy and take the dilaudid orally, the oxy will raise your tolerance faster in that scenario. If both ROA is the same though, I think (i'm not sure on this) the faster acting drug will raise your tolerance more.
