Opioids oxycodone ? (after a search)

I have been given a script for 20mg oxy after surgury 1 every 12 hrs. I didn't think it helped at all. 15mg hydrocodone worked better. My question is how are they supposed to help for 12hrs if there is only 20mg. If they are bigger say a oc 60 would that make a big difference. I don't wanna abuse it and beat the time relase I just don't get how its supposed help for that long and how the time release regulates it for that long. I guess my question is better asked this way. On a time release oc of any stregnth is it supposed to work like there is 20 or whatever mg in you the whole time or is it that mg spread out for the 12 hrs. Thanks

With the time release, it usually releases 10 mg immediately, and 6 hours later, the other 10 mg absorbs into the body. Its that way for pretty much any time release pill, I think. For people with no opioid tolerance this should be sufficient for mild to moderate pain, so that's why you only got 20 mg pills. If that's not enough to get rid of your pain, that's something for you to take up with your doctor.

As palli said, there is a dose released immediately. After this I believe the rest is released more gradually so it more or less keeps a steady dose in your system for the duration.

If these are insufficient for pain, maybe you need adjuvants, breakthrough pain meds, a different drug or a different dose but all these are just suggestions. Ultimately this is between you and your doctor so if your pain relief is insufficient, discuss it with him.
