im looking for some info about how long it took to start getting physically and mentally addicted to oxys. ive taken them on occasion over the last year but in the last 3 days ive teken doses that made me nod every night. this probably sounds dumb but im just seeing what your experiences have been thanks!

Well you've just proved you're not dumb by asking the question.
Can I assume this is recreational and you're not taking them for pain?

Been years since I could get a nod on easily. I can't see a 3 day binge generating any physical addiction, but you are already mentally addicted to risk taking. You ought to have someone around if you're opioid naive and nodding. As to when you lock risk taking into substances ,I'm not sure painkillers should be the family of drug you should go to unless you really have some pain to kill.
There's way more fun shit out there if you look hard enough, much of it less addictive. You may find something better than drugs while you're looking. Save the painkillers until you get old and need them.

Yeah I agree with the post above. I've been addicted for about 15-20 years and if I were on a tolerance break or got clean for a few months, I believe that a 3 day binge on oxy would definitely leave me in withdrawal the next morning..so that being said, how often do you use oxy and are YOU 100% SURE that it's coming from a PHARMACY...otherwise if you are getting yours off the street, you are probably using fentanyl and didn't even know it.

Anyway just be careful an every weekend or once a week or once every other week can EASILY close in fast to an every damn day dependent/addiction.

i am positive they are pharma, i use opioids about once a month minus the past few days but i usually binge different drugs until im too broke to buy more. im gonna try to keep oxys to once a month because after today ill be out.

Awesome sounds like a pretty damn good plan..if you start getting cravings don't cave in, definitely stick to this regimen and I think you should come out on top and avoid dependence. Just be extremely careful that goes for dosing too as your tolerance may be really low after a month break.

Oxycodone is a trap - it's euphoria is not reflected in it's analgesic activity.

As it is I had to hassle my doctor to prescribe it TID even though the boxes have 'take every 12 hour' in big letters. Even within an 8 hour period the plasma level goes from mild buzz to mild withdrawal. People taking it BID will soon end up dependant even if taken as stated and at the dose prescribed.

That's assuming it's REAL oxycodone and not fake.

If you have NO tolerance then even a 30mg pill will initially produce notable euphoria at the 1-3 hour mark (taken orally). Now a lot of people snort them which is downright stupid since first-pass metabolism converts about 10% of it to oxymorphone, an opioid x10 more potent (and which is responsible for half of oxycodone's subjective effects).

In short - I think researchers liked the idea of a drug that is LESS potent if consumed via parenteral routes. I keep on telling people that you get more out of just taking as prescribed rather than abusing.

But even when taken as prescribed, it does not last for 12 hours. That's why I actually had to pressure the pain clinic to prescribe my OC TID rather than BID. OK the high isn't so high - but I think that is a positive thing, On the other hand, my blood always contains at least 65% of the MAXIMUM plasma level (achieved at the 2 hour mark) so I don't get withdrawal.

Also snorting oxy is somehow not satisfying. After just a few hits of 60 or 90mg it's brittle and causes anxiety.

I'm stuck on oxycodone because I'm held together with significant amounts of surgical steel - one glance at an X-ray and doctors wonder how I walk. Well I do, not because oxycodone stops the pain, but instead of that sharp, takes-the-breathe-away pain it slows it down. Even so, I'm advised not to do to much and if I do the pain will just get worse... and while the UK doctor WILL give me 80mg/day the consultant was keen to point out:

a) It equates to 120mg of morphine a day
b) Higher doses don't really reduce pain more, they just zone the patient out.

I mean, I'm an old cripple with a long, long history of chronic pain and it STILL took 20 years for the medical profession to accept that it was the ONLY option. After all, it was that or live in a care home. I'm not THAT old and my wife obviously was NOT going to accept that.

To give a practical answer to the original question, physical dependence to opioids occurs around 14 days of daily use which is why in the US they generally do not prescribe opioids beyond 10 days even for the most severe acute pain. Your typical script is 5-7 days, even after most surgery.

However, psychological addiction may occur immediately after the first dose.

...but clinical, measurable, physical withdrawal symptoms start around 2 weeks of daily use in therapeutic amounts

3 days of opioids on an opioid naive person, even in extreme doses, is unlikely to produce any physical withdrawal

Psychological withdrawal is immeasurable in such a way
