any experience? did it help? my doc gave me some today so i am less worried about a seizure now but at little i have read on good i have heard it can make withdrawal symptoms more bearable too

It's a miracle for tramadol withdrawal in my experience, and there are case studies it's equally effective for benzo wd. If I were to go through benzo wd, this med would be myfirst choice. Please report back with your experience, I would be very interested in how it's working for you.

so far it seems that it might actually be helping. i feel like someone is squeezing my head constantly and am pretty confused but i am able to eat a little and sleep even though i am having really disturbing dreams. i smoke a little weed at night too and have a couple beers or shots of whiskey and that seems to keep the anxiety manageable. i know my W/D is going to get worse before it gets better but so far im feeling optimistic. the mornings are the worst. i wake up clammy and nervous and have vomited the last two mornings. had one very vivid hallucination of a tarantula crawling out of the drain of my sink while i was brushing my teeth. i still feel very shitty but i think i would be much worse without it

150mg in the morning and 150 at night. the anxiety is starting to hit me pretty hard today but still not unbearable. i have a couple ativan just in case things get completely unbearable and im really tempted to take one but im going to try to get through today without touching them

I know the weed helps you sleep, but have you smoked during the day or stayed up on it, does it cause anxiety or heighten it when going through WD? For me it always helped, but I stay home. If I go out after I smoke during WD I get very irritable and anxiety can borderline panic attack depending on the situation. Drinking during WD made for bad next days, and I don't mean drunk, just a couple of shots of crown by itself would make everything worse the next morning.
Is the Oxcar specifically for benzo wd or any wd? If I'm sick from heavy opiate use would it apply?

Thanks for posting as this helps with my wd toolkit research. I want to have a plan and be ready to taper or if I lost my stash I want to have an emergency plan to keep me home and handle it myself. Sincere thanks!

i really dont know much at all about oxcar yet other than it is an anti-convulsant and can help keep benzo addicts from having seizures and apparently makes the wd symptoms more tolerable. although my anxiety today peaked so high that i had to take half an ativan and i wish i didnt but at least for now i feel better. it seems like i did read something on google about it being used to treat opiate wd too but i could be wrong. my head is so fucked up right now its hard to tell whats real. i'd suggest asking your doc about it and if he/she thinks it could be beneficial to you. good luck brother. also, i hear ya on the alcohol. it makes my anxiety way worse later too but i am an alcoholic and there is no way i can quit both at the same time. oh, as far as the weed, it really depends on the strain and how you normally react to smoking. if it makes you nervous or paranoid in general then it might make your anxiety worse. i smoke a little bit during the day, just enough to calm me but i pretty much stay alone and watch tv or play dreamcast or some shit

What was your benzo dose before the switch? Did you taper down from a higher dosage or cold turkey it?
I'm interested in this. I have had benzo addiction for the good part of a decade and have tried many times and different ways to quit, this route however.. I have never tried.

Its interesting that this thread popped up.

I've actually been curious about oxcar for this purpose as well. The only information I found on it is that its extremely successful in rapid detox environments but those don't really pan out in the longterm (I went into one and they used Depakote to get me off but as soon as they let me out, the withdrawal hit me fully and I was in the hospital thinking I was dying a week later). Either way, I've used oxcar before as a mood stabilizer and it seemed to work without side effects for me so I think I'm going to bring that up to my psychiatrist and push her a bit about maybe switching benzos from diazepam to clorazepate (clorazepate is exclusively metabolized to desmethyldiazepam which has a longer halflife than diazepam but unlike diazepam, isn't heavily absorbed into fat so *should* technically stick around longer) and starting up oxcar.

Are there benefits with this drug over carbamazepine?

Its metabolism primarily. Carbamazepine is a CYP450 inducer and increases elimination of many drugs... including benzodiazepines.

Carbamazepine has a ton of side effects while oxcarbazepine is generally only associated with headaches and a few other minor side effects and hyponatremia (which carbamazepine is associated with as well) while carbamazepine can have side effects up to and including cardiac problems, agranulocytosis, and anemia.

You couldn't pay me to put carbamazepine in my system but I didn't really have issues with oxcarbazepine other than the cost. Now that I have Medicare, it would only cost me $1.20 a month so its worth trying.

Imo 150 mg two times a day is way too low dose to take care of your symptoms. In the height of my tramadol wd I was using 600 mg three times a day. They even come in 600 mg tablets. If possible, try at least 300 mg three times a day and see how it's working for you.

Edit: max daily dose is generally considered 2400 mg/day.

Just started on this.. taking 300mg 2x day.

Best way to stop benzos now? looking for advice on a taper off of 8mg etiz a day. 2mg 4x day.. i have two weeks to stop the etiz with the help of the oxcarb before i see my psych again.
I have 2 months worth of oxcarb but only a week and a half left of etiz so stopping it is inevitable.
Just looking for some advice on the easiest way to taper etiz.

This is my first time tapering off a short acting benzo, ive tapered off phenaz, clonaz and clorazepate in the past.. no idea how to go about this with such a short half-life.
