Overdose - Oxy + alcohol

A few nights ago I overdosed and went unconscious and pretty much stopped breathing (respiratory depression).

I had drunk about 3/4 a bottle of vodka over roughly 4 hours. Was feeling pretty drunk but would normally wake up with no hangover drinking that amount. Me and a friend then went to chill out and take some oxys. I have quite a high oxy tolerance have been recreationally taking them for nearly two years. I have recently just come out of hospital were I was on IV morphine and oxys for 2 weeks. which adds to my tolerance so i thought i would be fine. and a week previously I took 60mg with a couple of beers and barely got a buz/nod.

So knowing this and me being quite drunk stupidly took 90mg of oxycodone. My friend said about 45 minutes later I just fell back with eyes rolled in the back of my head. Luckly i was on a bed and didnt get hurt. at first she didnt want ppl (my parents, as we were at home) getting involved. She is a student nurse and did all the typical things to wake me up, check airways etc. after about 10 mins my breathing dropped way too much and started turning blue, this is when parents were woken and ambos called. she gave me cpr till ambos arrived and i woke up a few hours later in a hospital bed not knowing what happened but i was ok and was released once after some observation.

main point is a warning about using this combo. I WOULD OF DIED IF NO ONE WAS AROUND.

I thought i would be fine but pushed things to far. don't be naive like me and think u know enough even if you've been doing it for years.

stay safe

Thanks for sharing p3ace. :)

It's great to hear you came out the other side but a timely reminder that poly drug use is fraught with danger.

What a horrifying story, very happy to hear you are now OK. You have a very good friend there, sounds like she did all the right things.

Pretty much had the same exact experience with poppy seed tea and small amount of valium. Lucky my (then) gf was around or i too would no longer be here, pretty much stopped breathing and was turning blue as well.

Glad to hear you had someone around, and everything is ok.

You, grasshopper, are one lucky individual!

Be this a warning to anyone else who feels game enough to mix large quantities of downers in the one sitting... you must have been feeling pretty ill as a result..!

wow you are very lucky. I have also OD'd on oxycodone and alcohol. Zero tolerance, 30mg + half a bottle of whisky. For someone who weighs only 63kg, thats a lot.

I have a friend who has been prescribed panadeine forte and hits the bong occassionally. Does anybody know if their is a similar risk in combigning cannibas and codeine to that of oxy and alcohol? Should I warn them against it, or is it not something to worry about?

Mixing cannabis with opiates is fine. Cannabis doesn't depress your respiratory system. It's not really a "downer" in the same sense as alcohol, benzos or opiates are. All three of those depress your respiratory system meaning that when combined they can lead to real problems. But cannabis doesn't depress your respiratory system and so is safe to combine with opiates.

It's insane to hear stories like yours knowing that has never happened to me, and it certainly should have (or worse) several times over with all the indiscretion I have had with drugs and alcohol. That's super scary.
It's good that you are okay. How lucky you are to have a friend like that.

jeez, i wish people would stop congratulating his friend... If his friend DIDN'T do that, he'd be a fucking retard. If i got a dollar for all the ambo's i've called for OD'd friends, fucking mouth to mouth res. i have to perform, i'd be rich... Have you any idea how disgusting it is to have to put your mouth to another guys who hasnt slept or brushed his teeth for like 3 days... its fucking disgusting. But these are the things you need to do to save the life of a friend.

Anyone who wouldn't do it is a fucking pussy and not worth the dirt they walk on.

^^
Okay okay, no need to be a dick about it. This guy is just posting some experiences and a heartfelt warning. Nobody's saying that what he did was smart, or that his friend is some kind of extreme hero, but stories like this are a worthwhile warning. There's no need to shit all over everything.

^ Sad documentary, but If Requiem for a Dream, Layne Staley, or the increasingly insane and tortured literary offerings of Edgar Allen Poe aren't enough to discourage some people, then nothing will.
