Opioids Overdose and the 'Candy' method

You've all seen the film Candy, right?
Well, as you then now, in the beginning 'Candy' takes an overdose, and Heath Ledger (may he rest in peace) get's her better by IV'ing salt water into her veins (those lovely, lovely veins)

There are plenty threads on how to deal with ODs, but is this particular method advisable? It seems to be me to me very stranger, bordering on insanity. Wouldn't so much (however much really) 'pure' salt water damage the heart?

(and PLEASE, let's set up a separate opiate/heroin board, huh?)
 
I don't see any reason why this would work. I know saline is probably part of the treatment for an overdose (along with Narcan) but I don't think tap water with salt into the bloodstream is going to help with much at all.

Anybody else have a more medical answer? haha
 
This will do nothing for an opiate overdose. Contact emergency services, perform rescue breathing and CPR as required, give oxygen and administer naloxone if available.

(and PLEASE, let's set up a separate opiate/heroin board, huh?)
