Over 40 Arrests At Furthur Festival

I was at a festival last weekend and a couple I know had brought their small child. They were extremely responsible with regards to how they handled that situation. Not all parents who bring small children to festivals are selfish tards.

How they handled what situation, being at a festival? If it was an age appropriate venue they wouldn't have had to handle any situation. Why weren't they at the children's museum, park, kid's concert, etc... where the only situation that needs handling is showing up?

We've repeatedly seen murder, mayhem, and the very real threat of physical violence at festivals ranging from Gathering of the Vibes to Further. How is it responsible for a parent to introduce his/her child into an environment where there is a history of rampant drug use and violence? How is it not selfish to introduce a child into that environment?

Did the kid say (s)he wanted to see Bisco/Phis/whoever or was it the parent(s) who couldn't be content with bypassing that show in favor of an event specifically designed for kids?

This was a burner festival and there was literally zero physical violence all 4 days. There was every reasonable expectation that it would be safe, due to the longstanding strength of community among those in attendance.

Consider the existence of Kidsville at Burning Man. Burning Man is the size of a small city, drug use is rampant, and the environment is extraordinarily harsh, especially given the fact that the festival is a week long. Yet, Kidsville (a more or less self-organizing area of the festival that is several blocks wide and consists entirely of families with children of various ages) has done an excellent job of providing a safe family experience year after year. At a regional event that is organized by burners and for burners, what could lead someone to expect that children would not be offered an acceptable environment? It's part of the culture already.

I guess what I'm saying reflects more on the festival than on the parents ... although I'm sure as hell that the parents in question are too smart to bring their kids to a place like Bisco.

That's a good example. I'm sorry. I'm unfamiliar with Burner culture and better acquainted with the mid/late 90's rave and 21st century jamband circuit so those are the events I think of when I hear about parents bringing kids to festivals.

At least we can both agree that it is unacceptable to

A. overdose in front of/while attached to a child and
B. Bring kids to festivals where people slit their own/others' throats and carry handguns regardless of how much tie-dye or dayglo is present.

Yes, we can agree on those things, absolutely.

One more reason why I'm becoming less and less inclined to go to non-burner events as I get more of a sense of the differences between them and more commercial fests.

i actually attended this festival, as my first real festival experience (i've gone to EDC in LA and all thatbullshit, but that ain't a festival in my eyes really)...i never once saw any of these negative vibes, there were definately not 10,000 people there, i got in for free everyday (as well as the "acid test" afterparty on sunday night), i never saw any busts being made, i ate a shitload of excellent LSD, camped next to an awesome family with a nice set-up for food, smoked marijuana openly all day and night throughout the entire festival basically, ate some wonderful food...and after writing this i remember one incident w/ negative vibes...

there was a kid about my age (22) walking around shakedown street and the event entrance talking to himself and just rambling very loud to himself, asking people around him if they think he's crazy and telling everyone that everyone thinks he's crazy and they all hate him and that he can just punch em in the face right now, and that he loves his family, blah blah blah...so i go up to him and ask him what's wrong and he starts explaining this story where my friend basically got out of it that he smoked DMT and brokethrough while seeing a baby in front of him and he was dared to punch a baby after saying he can do anything in the world, so i think he punched a baby after he got to the point of just not giving a fuck about anything, but i'm not quite sure what the hell happened. i heard the cops were looking for him shortly after i talked to him. i was thinking to myself "this festiva is a free for all if that guy is walking around here and not arrested yet"...

hm i agree with some of what is said in response to this.

never a good environment when war on drugs crazed cops meet people at a show doing lots of psychedelic chemicals.

this is just a sad article overall negative. bad vibes when people are arrested for possessing chemicals, and in a festival, that cops infiltrated. leaves me thinking what is happening on earth is too intense, human race needs to see reason.

Narcotics seized during the event
8.9 grams ketamine (A general anesthetic)
962 grams of psilocybin mushroom and mushroom chocolate
61 ecstasy tabs
2.5 grams of powered ecstasy
30 doses of LSD

five tanks of nitrous don't count? or marijuana? maybe the cops are pretty chill lol...jk

though i would think you would find more than 30 hits of acid and less than 100 ecstasy hits at a festival. Found a bunch of shrooms though, I wonder in how many busts that came in. It would also be interesting to see if they can get a toxicology report on those seemingly way gone festival goers. Ripping ones own throat apart? Seriously?

I'm fairly certain what they confiscated altogether was only like 1/10th of what there actually was, and all of that ... well, you already know what happened, lol

Contrary to reports of the attendees being peaceful baby boomers from the 60s and 70s
only using marijuana the sheriff s office came into contact with numerous, violent
young adults under the influence of strong drugs with psychotic and aggressive behavior
expressing an anti -government sentiment similar to those subjects who protest G-8
Summits and other anarchist movements.

beware the communist

From my experience as a youngster at these festivals it was probably about 1/100th of what was actually there... the people cops bust are pretty much always runners.

Inside the fairgrounds a mother had overdosed on controlled substances while her 3
year old child was attached to her with a leash type device. Reportedly the child took its
clothes off to get away from her mother. The mother was hospitalized and the child was
taken into protective custody. While at the hospital the mother had to be restrained as
she was combative and attempted to bite and injure hospital staff.

At the fairgrounds parking lot camping area another male reportedly under the influence
of drugs cut his own throat open and was attempting to pull it apart with his own hands.
That subject was flown to a regional hospital for treatment.

Wow that mom is a true fuck up lmao....I feel bad for the daughter..

And the shit about the guy cutting his own throat is CRAZZZZY....

A lot of bad shit is happening at Cali events...

festivals ive been to cops just drive around the campground checkin to see if all the ppl are okay, not to bust ppl. thats how it should be for camping festivals like that. it sounds like this one tho might have gotten a lil too nutz tho

I hear that! The festies I've been to are the same. I have to say I am very proud of the way law enforcement behaves themselves at Legend Valley. They are there for protection and serving the well being of the people... Like police should!

I sat in front of main stage, next to a state trooper and county sherrif rolling up my weed like it was nothing. They didn't care at all. They are there mainly to stop the Woodstock type of rage behavior such as assaults & rapes (and baby punchings lol).

It blew my mind the first time I went. The whole world COULD be this way. Everyone doing there thing and respecting each other.

again, i never saw any kind of this behavior and i wasn't exactly stationary the whole time. and i was smoking weed everywhere and anywhere without a care in the world to worry about. saw a few people get taken away by the paramedics, but that's it. i wouldn't necessarily believe everything you've read inthat article as it seems outraheously over-exaggerated...
