I.V ADVICE
2 days ago this post would have been titled 'YAY!!',unfortunately todays events have changed my mind.
First of all can i just say i havent posted this in Health Q&A because i dont need medical advice,(no offence Fairnymph,Babydoc).
Ive noticed that the majority of IV users here are the same as me,and use 1ml ultrafines, well the other day i discovered the simple joy of using a 2ml rig with fix on pins.It was great at first,i didnt need to extend my thumb out too much to reach the top of the plunger, therefore eliminating the chance of going through the vein and generally making me feel more in control, basically because the barrel was thicker in circumfernce it could contain the same as 100units in a 1ml,but it would only fill about 2cm of the rig, comprendez?
Anyway,i WAS going to post a happy post explaining to everyone to convert, but today it all went Pete Tong.
You see i was also going to include in my post how great i found using the thick twister vein, that goes around you wrist, which is brilliant if you inject on the side of your wrist, but definetey not good if you decide to use a pin designed for IM,and then inject on TOP of your wrist.
You see the only fault i could find with the 2ml rigs was the stiffness of the plunger as you plunged,so what happened to me today was that combined with the extra length of the pin i used, the fact i decided to use the top of my wrist (NOT the side which i should have done),and the stiffness of the plunger, all combined to mean i have expertly managed to pierce into a nerve in my wrist.
At first i panicked, incase i lost the gear, then i quickly tied-off again and banged it into my elbow before the blood started to conjeal, but right now im in some discomfort,as in,not being able to flex my wrist!
Im pretty sure i hit a nerve as well as missing the vein, but ive done that many times and somethings different.
Basically my advice today is to try the 2ml rigs if you havent already, use the vein in your wrist, again,if you havent already,(NOT on top though),and dont use 1 feet long bits of hollow steel you cant control if your're IVing!!!
