Last night I was researching a drug called loperamide (the active ingredient in anti-diarrhea medicine). It's use as a recreational drug was controversial but i figured I'd give it a try. I went to the store and bought 48 pills for about $<snip>. I went home and ate them all. About 5 min later I was on the phone with a Verizon Wireless representative trying to activate a new phone. I was on the phone for about 20 min when I started feeling the onset of a nice opiate buzz that became more intense over the next 15 min.(When I was on the phone with Verizon I had pretty much forgot that I had even taken the pills). I'm a fairly pessimistic person, so I didn't expect much (Or anything at all). Even with my initial skepticism I still got a nice and long lasting buzz.

Side note:
I woke up this morning with a opiate hangover. When I got to feeling better I drank some coffee and had a solid turd.

loperamide doesnt cross the brain/blood barrier, its for the opiod receptors in your gut and will prob make you constipated. Be careful trying to find "legal opiates" because you will run into ALOT of misrepresented products.

edit: i coult be wrong i guess you could get a buzz from that stuff if you took alot of it, but i wouldnt because who wants to be constipated for minimal buzz
Crossing the blood-brain barrier

Concurrent administration of P-glycoprotein inhibitors such as quinidine and its other isomer quinine (although much higher doses must be used), PPIs like omeprazole (Prilosec OTC), venlafaxine (Effexor), and even black pepper (piperine as the active ingredient) could potentially allow loperamide to cross the blood-brain barrier. It should however be noted that only quinidine with loperamide was found to produce respiratory depression, indicative of central opioid action.[12]

someone else will correct me if i'm wrong i'm sure, but i think some does cross the bbb when you take really massive doses, which is why you can virtually stop all symptoms of opiate w/d when u take super-high amounts. not sure about how great the high might be if you're not experienced, but i know it can do a lot more for w/d than just deal with stomach issues

yea i guess the benefits outweigh the downside for some people on this one. trust me you never want to have a log jam because of something like this, its not fun. LOL

The constipation is a non-issue for me. I woke up and drank some coffee. I have not had any trouble with constipation.

^the constipation is the worst, that's why it's anti-diariah. I guess this works for some people, and dont get me wrong, I love this stuff during a withdrawal it helps alot. But anyone who is getting high off this, should probably look into a different drug.

no no no, opiate constipation takes time. Like 2 days of heavy use of hard opiates like oxy or w/e. This drug you posted about is not ment to give constipation but rather to soften ones loose stool.. but i bet you keep using for a few more days consecutively and you will know what everyone else here does. 8o

This thread is just a trip report so not appropriate for OD... as to the rest, if you want to continue discussing it, take it to the loperamide thread.

FTR, stray cat was right. It actually readily crosses the BBB but *MOST* (not all of it) is exported back across the BBB by P-glycoprotein... at therapeutic doses, not enough remains to have central effects.

If you take massive doses, enough remains that it can produce substantial effects that mitigate or even stop withdrawal and some even find it recreational. As to the issue of impacted bowels- its possible, but relatively proportionate to tolerance. Coming off morphine with loperamide I took 24mg once a day and was more regular than I'd been in months.

EDIT:

@ hippie- Loperamide is ABSOLUTELY used to harden, not loosen stools. That's why its branded as Imodium A-D (as in anti-diarrheal).
