OTC drugs in Europe that are illegal in the US?

I am just wondering.... I'm headed back to the US on monday, and I know different countries across the world, including Europe, have different laws on the legality and OTC drugs.


I have traveled a lot in my life, and I realize this is not the type of country that has shady pharmacies, like you can find in Italy or Mexico etc.... where I can find the right place, pay in cash and just walk away with a bunch of stimulants, benzos, opiates etc....

But can anyone enlighten me if they know about laws regarding OTC here (In Berlin, Germany) being different than the US? Basically what I'm asking is there anything I can go into a pharmacy here and pick up - whether it be for recreation, concentration, uppers, sleep aids, downers etc.... that don't exist in the United States without a prescription?

So your saying I can seriously walk into a Pharmacy here and buy Codeine without a prescription?

Are you positive about that? And I don't see why it would be so difficult to bring back to the US..... Assuming it comes in liquid form, you just throw it in your suitcase, along with maybe some quality German beers a well.... and if it's tablets... then even easier... I have many perscriptions, including a huge bottle of Lithium. Just easy to throw a bunch in there.

I've traveled many times with my large assortment of prescriptions.... like 5-6 bottles in my backpack, and never ever been questioned.
 
Because from what I am reading... pharmacy laws/prescriptions are obviously less strict than the US but Wikipedia makes it appear to require a prescription? However, I found other information saying you can buy it OTC, but just in small quantities.
 
I had no idea you could buy Codeine cough syryp over the counter as long as it has at least 3 extra ingridients in the USA, i read about on the internet and went into a small pharmacy thats been there 150 years and sure sure enough they sold me a bottle of codeine cough syrup 8 oz. it had codiene guay, tylenol and dramamine and it cost about 8.00 US

I've always said Walgreens should give me a franchise in the town where I live. All I'd sell is codeine cough syrup and wal-act 60's.
