Is there any medicine I can buy over the counter for my claustrophobia symptoms? It's gotten worse over time and it's getting really annoying for me at work. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Claustrophobia is a mental condition (as is any phobia) and there aren't any OTC meds that will help...you have to treat it like an anxiety disorder....with therapy, possibly prescription meds, etc.

Well, if you treat it like you would with an anxiety problem... possibly look into things like kava or mulungu to help, don't dose too high or you will be too sedated.

I'd recommend something like exercise to reduce your overall anxiety levels.

Definitely see a therapist for help with challenging and dealing with your problem.

I'm sure an anti-anxiety med would work for that but you won't find any OTC. The only thing I can think of that would even remotely help you is diphenhydramine because of it's slight sedative properties. But what you really need is a script for a benzo...

Hate to be an ass but just close your eyes and imagine you are in a diff place lol.

Otherwise just weak sedatives like kava, valerian root, or even lorazepam might help

Thanks for the responses. I was really waiting for them!

To Mr Blonde: I do feel great during and for a little while after I work out. (I run) But it's as soon as I go to work, which is at a grocery store, I hate people within an hour of me being there. I hate the feeling when someone is standing right next to me and ESPECIALLY behind me. It's the worst feeling. Ugh.

I thought maybe it was just the job but I enjoy my job and will get these feeling even at home. Something that will get to me is if I need to go into the kitchen to get a drink or whatever and someone is in there getting something or walking around in the kitchen I'd rather wait for them to be done doing what they're doing because I feel like we will collide.
