some poppies have been modified to yield higher thebaine concentrations than wild poppy pods. the same thing goes for pharm companies modifying poppy pods for higher levels of morphine to extract and purify for pharm use, or they grow poppies specifically for thebaine and make drugs like oxycodone and buprenorphine
