Does anyone know the oral bioavailibities of amphetamine, methamphetamine, and MDMA? I've been vaguely looking for a while, but haven't run across anything.

I'm no doctor but I've never even heard the term "oral bioavailablity" perhaps you could shed some light on the definition??

Bioavailability is the portion of a substance that eventually makes it into your bloodstream, where it can do what it's supposed to do. Eg the oral bioavailabilities of codeine/hydrocodone are around 60%.... this much of the substance (taken orally) gets into circulation, the other 40% gets excreted or metabolized before reaching the blood.

that is very interesting.
what about adderall? shouldnt that give a good indication with regards to amphetamine / e?
also has anyone ever toyed with the idea of transdermal ecstacy?
pure mdma powder through the skin into the bloodstream.
you know like that new patch the fda just approved as an option other than a normal BC pill?

I believe in the plugging FAQ they said that 50-60% of an oral dosage of MDMA worms it's way into your body. Since MDMA is a derivative of methamphetamine, I'd imagine that the oral bioavailability of amphetamine and methamphetamine would be similar. Look at me, my last post I was asking what the term "oral bioavailability" meant and now I'm using it like I'm a doctor or something, geesh

I'd guess so too, but I was kinda looking for a referenced result. Actually I'm pretty certain amp/meth bioavailibity is above 70%, but I'd like to see a real number. Anyone?
Transdermal MDMA wouldn't work, sorry.

Nice thought though. Patches can only deliver very small amounts of a substance, under a milligram/hour. MDMA isn't potent enough. And you wouldn't really want MDMA in your bloodstream for days, it would lose effectiveness pretty quickly.

Would it not be the same as with other ingested drugs/medicines around 40% (I have read somwhere) is actually metabolised by the body, and the rest is filtered by the liver as its supposed to be.
Hence the research into these new 'smart drugs' (no, not designer recreational drugs) which target the actual site/organ by various innovative means.

Just say know.

You could in theroy do transdermal MDMA using DMSO, this is definatly NOT recommended due to the effects of DMSO by itself.

I had a book that had such figures in it, but I lost it ( I need it for class, too).

From what I remember, the oral bioavailability is 80-90% depending on the amphetamine. I will ask my professor in class tomorrow though, and see if he has any idea...

Zorn, the oral bioavailability of methamphetamine is about 70%. I haven't found any data for other amphetamines
