hello bl, it seems I have pain in my throat/ear to which my doctors don't seem concerned the slightest, however it is annoying and is stopping me from working atm. I am told it may be a virus. The fact of the matter is that, I have pain and I havn't access to any pain killers besides otc preparations. I have been in pain for a couple days and it's at the point where I can no longer afford to succumb to the pain and I must work through it. I have aleve, regular tylenol, advil, and tylenol 1 (8mg codeine, 300mg ace, & caffeine) last night I took 4 of these around two am and I was able to sleep without much difficulty until about nine this morning, now I'm up, and in pain, I encountered trouble with this medication previously, after taking multiple doses (6hr inbetween) I wasn't getting the same relief that I got last night (and I hadnt taken tylenol 1 for atleast 12 hours that point), my question bl is, how long inbetween doses should I wait to be getting full or optimum effect from this, I also need to know an appropriate amount to take, any other advice is taken with discretion and appreciated. I also vaporize cannabis throughout the day, as well as take vyvanse in the morning which I took at 9am and had pain before taking. Could cannabis be irritating my throat/ear? I could consider not using as much if this is the case, I am wondering; I am considering taking more d-amp, I have alot to do and so little time to do it all. So please bl, guide me into the light on the matter to which I admittedly am ignorant, yet open to learning more about. Thanks.

You could try eating your weed instead if it may be irritating? Or go to the doctor and try and get something strOnger than OTC. If not you could try some promethazine or some other antihistamine to potentiate the codeine.

Not sure what else. Get a second or third or fourth opinion if the doctors don't know what it is. Have you seen an ETN (ear, throat and nose) specialist? Maybe they can shine some light?

And just follow the instructions on the box. It's really only the paracetamol and ibuprofen which needs to be spaced out. You can eat a lot of codeine before anything would happen to you. But again an antihistamine with large doses for the itching.

how many hours do I need to wait between taking each dose of tylenol 1 for the codeine to work each time, I will take tylenol one around 11:30 in about 17 minutes.
I wont take an antihistamine and i don't want to take so much that I'll get itchy I have some technical stuff to do today which requires my full attention

What is the key amount of time to wait between each dose, bottle says 4-6h but I waited 6 with little success.

maybe do a CWE (cold water extraction) and take a bit more codeine without the tylenol. 8mgs of codeine is hardly an effective dose for antitussive effects, much less analgetic. also i'll jump in and say promethazine is really good with codeine. try maybe 50-80mgs of codeine for a stronger pain relief. anyway, in dosages below that, codeine is hardly effective as a painkiller. also i'd take it easy on the d-amp, it inhibits saliva flow, which you need to keep your throat wet.

I'm not sure what's in the preparations you have. But if they've got paracetamol ibuprofen or aspirin in them, every 4-6 hours.

can't do cwe, more trouble than it's worth imo, il try 2 tylenol 1 and a bit of d-am after my shower, maybe biotene. Is promethazine avail over the counter in canada?

No idea. Should be. And btw cold water extraction isn't a hassle at all. Dissolve it all in 50mls of water, throw some ice cubes in the mixture, wait a few minutes, put some fabric over a glass and pour. Drink. What's hard about that?

seems like borderline drug abuse imo, it isn't that it's hard, it's that it's not worth the time and imo I don't want to get into the habit of doing stuff like that. CWE only seems like harm reduction if your taking excessive doses, which im not, I only want to take like 2-4 pills / dose. suggesting cwe begs the question, if I was going to do that why wouldn't I get real drugs.

All true. The question was, were/are you getting sufficient pain relief? If the answer was no and you couldn't get something prescribed, the quantity of codeine you might need to get relief outstrips what is safe to take in a combined formula. Hence, CWE being an option for you.

Certainly no one is suggesting you should do that. But the option, should you require additional pain relief with diminished risks, is available.
