Opioids Opium - Visionary?

I've heard tales of opium smoker's going into dream like world's, opiates potentiating dreams, & accounts of people having OEVs & CEVs while on opium. I've also read when one smoke's opium, morphine & codeine are the two primary alkaloids being ingested at that point, whereas, when it's orally consumed the whole alkaloid cocktail in the latex comes into play.

I've never done opiates of any form recreationally, & I'm curious as to wether opium can be an intriguing headspace, if it has any psychedelic or dissociative effects, or if it's an atypical high. I love psychedelics by all accounts, but I also love consciousness in & of it's self, & would at least like to explore some other states of it than just tripping. From what I've observed, most Psychedelic Only types don't care too much for anything but serotonergics & cannabis.

Can anybody with any expierence here describe opium in anyway? What does orally ingested opium feel like? Does it just numb pain? Do you feel like you're in a dream on it? Does the world have an altered feeling to it, (like how cannabis can make ordinary things both look & feel more crisp, constant & abstract)? Is it an altered state of concsiousness with an impressionable headspace to it?

I have some seeds I've been sitting on, I have intentions to grow them eventually but i'm curious as to wether anything can be gained, reflected upon or discovered (other than feeling awesome) from the state opium provides.

IMO, most opiates in general have a type of "feel good" trance that can be used beneficially, say in terms of production, etc. I wouldn't say there is anything special about opium in terms of this effect. It's difficult to compare to psychedelics though; they're very different.

Opium in particular has a blend of alkaloids that act at a variety of receptors, which provides a different experience from a single alkaloid. Notably papaverine acts at the sigma-1 receptor - other "dissociative" and euphoric drugs act there too. Thebaine and oripavine are stimulating.

The primary effects of opium are still that of morphine - typical of opiates.

Any notable derealization, depersonalization, enhancement or distortion to either external &/or internal perceptions & processes?

[i.e. Ethanol causes a clouded, hazey perception of external processes, vaguely dissociative, the world being whim to the disregard of animal impulse. "Visuals" consisting of a dullness to things, like a stream of constance confined to only the present, (whereas cannabis has more of a spatial element in regards to the in-the-moment expierence)]

I would say there is a definite 'dreamy' element to the opium experience that other pharmaceuticals lack, but it is not a very severe or strong effect, and I haven't done much of either.


Opiates in general are not as "intoxicating" as cannabis/alcohol.

One thing about opium is it gives, me anyway, a sense of 'stillness of the mind' like the moon reflected on a still lake.

Cant say i've ever had any 'visionary' type dreams under its influence, but i've always ingested opium from blended-strained into tea-pods, never smoked enough of the stuff to really get the most out of it. However one interesting effect i've had from opium tea is that i can fall asleep & wake up feeling like i've been out for a good, refreshing 7/8 hours only to realize i've only been asleep for 3 or 4. It's truely odd. I wonder if anybody else here can claim to have also experienced said effect.

That said the whole stillness of the mind effect is, to me, reminiscent of the tail end of a trip on good shrooms where your mind is free of thoughts good or bad, quite like after a good long session of meditation.

I'm familiar with said stillness of the mind, I've had some of my most profound reflections in those instances (Psilocybin come downs & after effects). If the headspace of opiates is comparable, I can see them as having some expiramental potential in the future.
