Opium Tar?

I tried searching here and google but everything comes up with refining it and acetylating it and stuff.
My question is
When the poppy pods are fully grown, and you make incisions with a razor blade and let the black tar leak out, can you smoke this tar on foil and chase it? Like straight from pod to foil? Or does it have to be refined/purified first?

The opium latex/gum comes out as a yellowish substance and the opium poppy pods are cut in the evening to let the resin/latex/whatever ooze out during the night and it turns brown during the night or blacksih . It is best to let the opium gum dry out as long as possible to let the water content lower making the opium more alkaloids by weight and less water weight . Some opium smoking people refine the opium, but mainly it is sun dried and allowed to dry out as muc as possible before smoking,as the drier it is ,the less % of the total opium gum or tar-like stuff is water.That means more of the opium alkaloids by weight and less water % and weight ,meaning the opium is more potent with less water..so it's possible I'm sure to smoke it after it has oozed out overnight and then dried for a while, but you will get less buzz for the weight, it's better to sun dry it at least to lower the % of water and make it more potent
Also an opium pipe is best for smoking or even a weed pipe, as opium does not smoke very well when heated indirectly on foil, it needs a flame to touch it at least like in a pipe, and opium pipes use some method of heating the opium and then putting it in the pipe and using a flame to fire it up again if let go out. Use a weed pipe at least and put some opium,preferably dried properly on top of some weed or tobacco even and smoke it similar to weed or hash..

It's not considered "black tar" because it's not black when it leaks out. Usually it's milky white and dries to an amber-ish color. You have to let it dry before it's usable.

You could smoke it off foil but it's messy - try dissolving it in water and then filtering and evaporating to get "smoking opium" which should work on foil better. Or just smoke it in a bong.

sorry to go off topic, but does anyone know the possibilities of growing opium poppies in southern florida?

It's illegal in the US to grow opium poppies, especially for consumption.

It is not Tar because "Tar" is a form of heroin. Opium is the unrefined sap of 3 types of poppy (note that "refined" opium is often used incorrectly to describe
re-constituted and filtered opium).

Heroin is made via a refinement of opium in which its alkaloids are targeted for further refinement (while others are discarded). There is a myth that Tar is made directly from opium (as in acetylysing opium). This is false. It is simply a sloppily made product that neglects a crucial step (reverting the acetate back to a freebase, etc).

As for the last question by the OP, can you smoke opium off of foil ("chasing the dragon"), no. Opium isn't smoked, either is heroin, they are vapourised. If you try to smoke opium on foil it will keep going out before you can inhale. It is heated very slowly, a lot like good hashish is smoked. When it begins to vapourise you take a long, gentle pull on it.

If you are opiate naïve, and don't have the proper pipe for opium (they are easy enough to make), you can enjoy it by liquifying it in a boiling cup of water that has cooled down to sub-boiling. As soon as the bubbles stop in your water drop a dose the size of a pea (roll it into pea sized balls). However, the best way by far is to plug a pea sized ball (administer it rectaLly).
