I've read a lot of info' about harvesting opium including a small book about 'Opium husbandry' in British India when it was legal.
Even back then (The book is either from the 1780's or 1880's.) they knew that rain, flooding and apparently high humidity all lower the morphine content of opium.
Does anyone know how this works? I've had no luck trying to find out.
Is it literally washed out/some how excreted into the surrounding ground or does increased water/moisture cause the plant to convert the morphine back to thebaine (I doubt this as it's be used as a way to increase thebaine production and reduce morphine.) or is it converted to codeine (Methylmorphine)? This too I don't think happens otherwise they'd increase the moisture to increase the codeine as it's harder to make into morphine esters which is what people want on the black market.
Does anyone have any info' at all regarding this?
