Opium dreams

I posted in homeless thread about closed eye visuals and got a response of opium dreams. I was wondering how often does this happen with people who take hydrocodone? Is it common?

Two completely different world.

Ive smoked a lot of Opium in my day (had an 8g 2 week binge just this past summer with some beautiful spanish brown opium), and I can tell you from experience its nothing like hydrocodone really.

And why would it be?

Opium (true opium) has a combination of various opiate alkeloids, two of which being Morphine and Codeine, but hydrocodone is not (to my knowledge), naturally occuring in opium batches.

Opium produces a dream like sense of reality. Instead of nodding out, its more as if youre in a really soft and cozy dream. When you smoke enough you sure as shit nod off, but its nothing like with heroin or any pharms.

Opium is a beautiful beautiful substance. Definitely up there with herb and K as one of my all time favorites.

The only time I have dreams that have anything to do with opiates, is when I don't have anymore, am going into withdrawal, and laying in bed worrying about going through the next day not being able to get anything to "cure" me -that is if I get any sleep at all. Those are the times when I have dreams of having a couple generously filled bags, or meeting up with the dealer/making a call. It sucks having dreams like that when you are in the worst spot.

Oh my God, I know EXACTLY what you mean... and it truly sucks :( One of the most God-awful things to experience ever.. My meds are prescribed by my Dr's ( was oxy and fent patches - now just fent patches... ) and occasionally I would run out on the weekends and not due to collect my script until the Monday morning - I would be in the beginning stage of w/d's where you can still sleep, only just, but a very restless sleep, and I would be dreaming about something like being on the phone to my Dr with him saying you can come get your script, its ready/being at the pharmacy getting my meds and getting home/being at home with my meds and taking that first dose to 'cure' the w/d... etc etc... My God those sucked :( I would wake up and burst into tears it was that bad :(

Yeah, hydrocodone is actually a derivative of codeine and thebaine.

I've never smoked opium, but I always found I entered that kind of dream world more on heroin than on pharmaceutical painkillers. I imagine opium would be even more "cloud-like", due to the many other alkaloids that are not found in painkillers.

I usually would experience it in the middle of a nod, where I'd feel like I could sense the presence of someone right next to me, or behind. Often I would begin talking to this sandman, and as I'd come back up into reality, I'd realize I was talking to the wall. Sometimes these experiences would actually be anxiety provoking, where I'd be trying to lay down to go to bed, but as I started to fall asleep, I would get this urgent, death like feeling come over me, and my body would kind of jerk me awake.

I have noticed the energy phase of hydrocodone is less and less. It lasts like maybe hour or so. Then I get tired. Like today I was so sleepy I wanted to go home and sleep it off but I couldn't. Then I got anxiety. I just engorged it and keep on working telling myself just 2 more hrs ect... When I got home I was not tired any more. I did not redose again until 8pm. Now the whole thing is happening again. I think I need to stop for sometime but then I will be hurting. I know I will have withdrawals. Maybe I'll just take 1/2 tabs tomm. Maybe it's the cigarettes. Idk. I feel like crap.

Last night I dreamed I was a ghost watching kids get murdered. It was like a prison and these kids were trapped. Maybe an orphanage.I tried to stop them but couldn't. When they died I would comfort them and take them with me. It was really really weird. I woke up so sad. It was all in black and white. Last thing I watched before bed was Toy story 3 with my kids. I would not think that show would promote this type of dream.

I don't get any closed eye or open eye visuals from any type of opiates (never heard of anyone getting that either). But floating in and out of consciousness...lol ever heard of...wait for it.......wait for it.....a nod!

You know what some people get is sleep paralysis which is something kind of odd. Actually that shit is really weird it's like your in your body but can't move and I dunno I like experience panic at first .. it's just like you are trying to hard to move your arms..like I was half in and out of a dream and I was in my drivers seat I had fell asleep and i was trying to hard to get my eyes open and hands on the wheeel but I couldn't move. It almost seemed like a dream but sleep paralysis is a real thing and it's pretty common. For me it has only lasted a few minutes I think at most.

You definitely can get CEVs from high doses of an opiate, right about when you start to get into a heavy nod. I've even gotten them from high doses of Kratom (w/ zero tolerance). Most of the time they're not that vivid, but sometimes they can be very strong

It's a bit like a dissociative state, you can see structures, people, animals, etc, usually outline by some sort of tracery. Also, your point of view can move around and zoom in or out. As far as I remember these vision tend to be monochrome.

use to nod on codeine.....the good ole days of drifting through thoughts that would become real. When I use to not know I was dreaming until I snapped out of my trance like dream.

This has happened to me many time in my life. The first time I was a kid it was really scary because I was all alone and I swear I saw a alien! Thank you X-Files!!!

I found out what it was and I would roll my self in my sleep until I woke up. I think it is a type of sleep disorder. I have had this happen in a few years. I noticed it would happen more frequently if I slept too much.

I often get sleep paralysis when I'm detoxing off opiates, or rather going through post acute withdrawal. I also get it when I taper down on suboxone. I'll usually have my eyes open, and I'll suddenly realize that I cannot move a single muscle or joint in my body, which then induces a delirious sort of panic, sometimes coupled with auditory and visual hallucinations (and a strange sense of foreboding, as if I'm being observed) Eventually I'll regain control over one side of my body, and slowly manage to push myself over (whenever this happens I also have been lying on my back, which I read is common), and then am able to regain control.

I'm opiate dependent (maintaince w/poppy tea, so I consume morphine primarily & am tapering slowly) , a heavy cannabis smoker (which inhibits your ability to dream/remember your dreams) and I have always rarely dreamt even when I was sober/younger and so on. This is what makes my experience all teh stranger-

Recently I aquired a small amount of very high-quality heroin which I took a few nighst back. It lived up to its hype (and honestly must have been 75%+ pure, even with my tolerance 30mg had me feeling very good) and all was well and good. Then that night I had the most terrible and vivid nightmares, towards the end I remember thinking that I had forgotten how to wake up and that I would be trapped in the nightmare eternally. For someone who doesn't dream it was extremely disturbing- I can only compare it to a bad dmt-trip in terms of the experience.

I can also remember my mother (who was prescribed morphine for pain) said that it gave her the most wonderfully strange and vivid dreams for the for two weeks or so she was on it. Apparently her doctor even told her that she might have strange dreams or nightmares as she was being put on it but that they would go away quickly.

Maybe that also has something to do with it?

I know that 'pipe dreams' was meant to refer to the strange CE and occasionally OEVs that opate users (most notably opium users, though that may have had to do with the social stigma of being a white opium addict, thus resulting in more 'chippers' who would experience 'pipedreams' unlike addicts who may be desensitised to them). Though I'm using Burroughs as a source here, so you always have to take the king of (lying, thieving ;)) junkies word with a 1/2 grain of junk.
