I've noticed that the majority of threads on here seem to be concerned with opiates.

Having never had the opportunity to try them, can somebody explain to me what the fuss is all about?

In a recreational sense, they give you a very strong feeling of euphoria, along with a boost of confidence and lack of care. They leave you with generally an overwhelming sense of self confidence. They can be pretty addictive though. Most people who get addicted are people who use it recreationally, but then start self medicating for social anxiety. Or they take it for medicinal purposes, but have to keep upping their doses.

Some people find their effects pleasurable, that's all. In addition to what J. Wallace said, they are also painkillers and a large portion of the populance uses them as an aid for pain control.

This thread is not really OD material; don't do drugs if you don't understand the hype/want to do them.
