Opiates - The 'easy button' of drugs?

opiates are GREAT! they make you feel good when you need to, they are your best friend you can fall to EVERY time your down and they will cheer you up. when your alone, in pain, depressed, they can make everything seem better.

now tell me how that doesnt do anything for you??

I find it ineresting that the OP is ascribing that opiates are the only drug without any sort of benefit.

You;ve never been in extreme pain where opiates were the only class of drug that barely even touched the pain you were in. They certainly have a use.

^"oxycotton" isn't much of a painkiller let alone a decent high

and living as an opiate addict is far from pushing the easy button, it's a hard life.

I can see how you've made this association while on LSD, your friend experiencing a simple 'high'.. a reduction in thought process and an unwillingness to do anything but enjoy it. Whereas yourself experiencing multiple racing ideas,thoughts and concepts it's quite easy to draw to the conclusion that opiates are less complex, therefore they must offer less.

But they are two very different drugs which both have benefits in there own ways. You wouldn't take opiates to attain insight and depth into yourself, the same as you wouldn't take LSD to relieve pain or to help with insomnia.

I can see what you're saying but I can't say I agree.
Read some of the trip reports on Erowid about Heroin and OxyC. I think something I read on there said something like "LSD lets you look out into the cosmos and stars but heroin lets you look deep inside of yourself"

I disagree. Opioids can provide a profound euphoria that makes one more interested in noticing and participating in beautiful and industrious activities or things around them.

Food tastes better, work done is more fulfilling, making love is more dynamic, hobbies become more interesting, motivation to 'do' in life feels easier.

I'm of the opposite opinion than you, that empathogens and hallucinogens of all classes are a false 'epiphany', an illusion of feelings and thoughts that weren't present to begin with. I think they cloud the mind and body from the person underneath, which opioids focus in on.

Excellent post, I agree with it.

I'm not naive enough to think that opiates are the perfect drug. Because it does turn one into a "Needless Being", and as a result one can forget/ignore problems in the real world that need to be dealt with. I've been binging for almost two months, and I'm starting to notice all of things I've neglected.
