opiates for pain

I have to say I have noticed myself as tolerance increases opioids don't really nauseate me anymore, any mild nausea they may cause is generally alleviated with a small dose of antihistamine, I have also found that gargling cold water helps, as does lying down as you have found. Although I must admit last time I dabbled with heroin earlier in the year I had taken a break from opioids for a while and had a bit of a chunder on my first nod or two.

Tbh I don't even find opiate nausea that unpleasant when I do get it, its nothing like having the spins from drinking too much or having to force myself to throw up mushroom tea.

I personally think that you are better off upping the dose of codeine and taking 5mg oxy next time, it will just space your shit out better, I mean you can always go get more codeine as it is OTC but who knows when you will see oxy again.

^ Great advice there! Oxy is a precious commodity like oil or water or helium, save it and use it wisely. :)

I've never really understood the nausea thing from opiates. I'm quite the opposite I can take opiates when I'm feeling nauseas and they usually make me feel great and able to eat. Meh I must be lucky.

Cheers for the advice and discussion everyone. I happen to have some metoclopramide.

I agree… It was hard enough for me to come across these oxy's. I also agree that I think I might just up the dosage on the codeine and stick with 5mg's.

I'll let you all know how I go. Don't really have time at the moment. Assignments come before getting high! Plus it serves as a reward.

I appreciate the advice. Thank you allot.

Cheers!

^ But if you study high, and take the test high...

just like i had to get drunk this afternoon to remember where the fuck i put my shoes. i thought i left on the hotel balcony after checking out this morning=D seeing glasses as well

curious, have ahd the most shocking neck pain (starts at base of ear and travels down to colar bone) quite annoying...anywho...found some oxycodon 5mg caps, took 2 of them about 30min ago with a glass of mix of turkey n coke and horay pain gone! only problem is i know it will come back and have 2 caps left...what would be a good way to get through tonight and till about midday untill i can get back to the docs? also have a box of panadine fort but generally don't like to take it cuz the porcelin punishment the next day..or 2 later is bloody viscious :p

Cheers all

Hey mate, I can relate to how you feel because it sounds like you're having the same issues I am getting pain treatment.

Only advice I can give you is to avoid mentioning drugs by name like that, unless the doctor brings it up first or you've already been prescribed it in the past. Displaying a knowledge of pain meds beyond that of the general public just screams drug seeker to them, even if you are in legitimate pain.

Just had to quote this post due to 'using it' in relation to talking to a new GP that I saw for the first time today. As some people know, I've now had nerve damage (and chronic pain as a result) since 2006. I've been to dozens of doctors, either as specialists and/or surgeons, medical rehab staff. I've seen a 'handful' (6-10?) of GPs for the ongoing assessment plus script writing for my various meds. I had potential bad news GP wise when my then current GP told me he was not coming down to Geelong anymore as he moved to Melbourne due to a recent divorce.

Each time I've had to see a new GP has always resulted in week(s) and even up to months of 'pain' (stress of finding a GP I like, I won't go to one I don't like being seen by) finding one. Anyway, I contemplated travelling to Melbourne to continue seeing the same GP but speaking to it with my wife, decided best to keep going to a local GP due to cold months coming up (cold flares up the pain) plus the general hassle of travel time especially now that our second bub is due in just over 2 weeks.

So anyway, I instantly took a liking to the new GP who my old GP said was taking over his spot in the place I go to. He seemed genuinely interested in my injury + pain whereas most doctors (no matter if they literally had been a GP for ~2 years to 30-40 years) weren't too sure about 'taking me on' as I'm not the typical 'easy' patient of seeing a GP for a cough/cold etc. Well this guy was pure gold medically wise, listened to me with 'good intent' if that makes sense and when I mentioned I've been on the 'urgent list' for a local hospital's pain clinic he told me he was in the same position. It appears he also has chronic pain or something similar. He kept also making comments (that I realised at least then) after this of "Oh, I do understand", "I know what you mean" whilst sounding like he actually is telling the truth. Joy \o/ A doctor who actually seems to KNOW what I'm going through due to going through the same thing.

Onto the quote bit. We got into a good 'friendship' quite early into the first appointment, I literally went today just to do a meet + greet to see if I wanted to see this GP or move on to someone/where else. So, I told him how I'm VERY interested into the medical side of things as opposed to the 'just a dumb patient' type of thing. I then (thinking of this thread/post I quoted, literally) stated how hope I don't seem to be a "drug seeker" since I have knowledge of drugs/lifestyle due to having an active interest in how I am being treated for my pain (and whatever I consume food or drugs, I want to know what I'm having and why for the main). He smiled and stated how he understood as he is "in the same boat", just that he is a GP and I'm not. LOL. But it looks like I'm going to have a good doctor - patient relationship with him. I ended up having a fantastic relationship like this with the GP who was seeing me in Melbourne which had to end when I moved to Geelong (after several months) due to the logistics of living 70/80 kms away from a GP I see typically every 1-4 weeks.

From experience and seeing anecdotal evidence (friends, word of mouth and/or internet posts), I know this isn't typical, it does seem GPs/most doctors frown upon us 'patients' actually having knowledge of anything medical/pharmaceutical wise. Lame but it's what the reality is. But score one for me (again). I was dreading seeing a new GP but looks like I've scored, if it's from karma, then it's whole heartedly deserving :p I sent a sms to my old GP (yeah, he gave me his personal mobile number in case I needed to contact him since he moved to Melbourne recently, ROCK ON) asking if he could revoke the s8 permit due to re-thinking the Geelong <-> Melb travelling thing and decided to stay local, he replied that easy as pie and he was sending in the required paperwork/info today. :) By fook it's hard finding this kind of service these days imo with regards to (GP) doctors but I'm glad I'm finding it =D

Sounds like you've found one of the rare good doctors out there, hope it goes well for you mate.

ive acquired some methadone and im just curious as to the dose levels i should be looking at.
ive only ever had codeine and tramadol before as being the 'strongest' opiates, but i know this won't really directly effect my tolerance to methadone.

i'm more curious about the dose stages, ie. dose for pain vs recreational dose.
from what i've read on other sites 10-15mg seems to be a good starting dose, would this be correct?

i'm not planning to get full wrecked, just after some advice.

From what I remember 10mg is probably a good start. I've never taken methadone orally, but apparently it takes quite a while to kick in (peaking around the 3 - 4hr mark) so be ready for that.

its ok, im well aware of onset, duration, effects etc...
was just curious about the dose as most the info around is in relation to someone who is already on strong opiates.

1.15hr in and it feels like i've had 400mg of codeine and i can feel it getting stronger slowly, so hopefully i got the dose right.

also curious about endep (Amitriptyline) in combination, from some of the research i did some people mentioned it potentiated opiates but was hard to tell if it actually did or not lol, is it likely to have any interaction with methadone?

I'd say the endep would just add to the sedative effects of the opiates, like antihistamines do, making it more likely to nod. Let us know how the experience with methadone goes and how you think it compares to codeine/tramadol.

Methadone is one of the only opiates in Aus I haven't had the pleasure of trying.

the endep doesn't really give me any sedative effects, only helps me sleep as it calms my mind a bit, so thats not to worry.

i took 15mg, but if i dont feel anything stronger at the 2 hour mark i'll take some more

well started with 15mg and endup up re dosing another two times around an hour apart (first one after 2hours since first dose) and came to a total of 25mg.

i think i should have gone higher for the first dose, but overall it was quite nice.
i got quite a bit of itching, but nothing more than a high dose of codeine.
it kept me up and stimulated me in a similar way to what codeine does to me also.
i guess i got a bit of euphoria or similar, but could have been just being happy i wasn't in pain.

had a few xanax towards 9am after bumming in bed watching movies all night and the xanax went perfectly with the methadone to relax me even further.
i love the half life <3 as i was at a stage where i was feeling the effects of the methadone quite well, but wasn't anywhere near wrecked, it provided a very long peaceful experience.

its a bit strange though, i felt a king of opiate head 'rush'/full kind of feeling, but it was hard to gauge at what point t would be useful for pain without being kind of intoxicated.

anyway, was great to just relax not having to worry about my legs and had a few other good effects, had a few nods here and there, but i would assume the fact that i didn't sleep would have attributed to that a bit.

overall it was a great experience for just kicking back, was still able to function 100% normally just felt a bit 'full' in the head if that makes sense lol.
no nausea,

so now its made me curious as the what to expect from other opiates.

is it hard to find a balance between pain relief before experiencing other side effects, whether they be good or bad?
i'm keen to give a few XR opiates a go as i think a lowish dose would be all i need.
the main reason i tried the methadone was to see if stronger opiates than tramadol would give me some relief, and was very happy with the results.
i'd hate to chase up this pain management only to find i dont get any benefit from stronger pain killers.

now a question...
how will this effect my tolerance to other opiates?
i know methadone can dull some other drugs, but i've not see anything relating to a once off use.

sorry or the long post and hope it makes sense lol
