I didn't see this touched upon anywhere else; forgive me if I missed it. Just wondering if others, like me, always want to smoke way more cigarettes when experiencing an opiate high/buzz.

Have been quit from cigs 4 days (using nicotine patches), and tried kratom for the first time a few hours ago, with some moderate success. Anyway, even on the patches, my whole evening has been marked with INTENSE cravings for a cigarette! It's bad. I probably would've caved by now if it wasn't raining and I didn't have to walk to the store to acquire a pack.

When I had my dope and was smoking at the same time, I always ripped threw a pack in about half the time, lighting up one after the other...

Wonder if this is due to the cough-suppressing action of some, or all, opiates? If so, does kratom act in that fashion, as well? Excuse my ignorance; I'm not as seasoned as some.

What are your thoughts? Do you smoke like a freight train on opiates too? Do you wake up hacking a lung the next day? One of the big reasons I want to quit now is because of all the "extra" smoking I did while I was otherwise feeling great. Probably have enough tar in my lungs to patch up a whole parking lot.

It doesn't seem that it's the nicotine I'm craving either, as things have been going otherwise well with this quit, so far - but the ACT of smoking that really sounds good right now. Just the feel of that first drag... Lol should stop fantasizing about it. Picked a great time to start experimenting with the kratom :\

Holy shit I just used kratom for like the third time tonight and drank a pint of bourbon. Anyway I rarely want a cig but I just had an insane craving so instead of driving I went and bummed one from the neighbor. I find it makes me want a cig but I dont get the insane taste/pleasure I get from them when i use real opiates.

Don't want to turn this into a kratom thread but may I just quickly ask dosage and ROA? Also on a scale of 1-10 compared to, say, a strongish hydro buzz, in your opinion?

You're blessed if you don't have the urge to smoke often. I was a pack a day-er, and 2+ packs if I was lucky enough to be mighty tighty all day and nighty

oooh boy...chain smoking those puppies when im high..not even just opiates; pretty much whenever im fucked up on anything. i actually use how much i LOVE smoking cigarettes at that moment to gauge how high i am, if that makes sense. if smoking a cigarette feels orgasmic and im on my 5th cig back-to-back, then i know im pretty damn fucked up. but towards the end of the night, they'll still be nice to smoke, but not as amazing. there's a direct correlation of 'fucked up-ness' and 'enjoyability of smoking cigarettes'

I made a thread about this already... UTFSE

edit: I may have deleted it though, anyways remember this is a harm reduction focus forum and that if there isn't any HR value to this thread it will be closed.

When using Oxy/H/Methadone I constantly had cigarette cravings, especially when stoned on herb too. Opiates are known to relax the throat muscles and kill pain, that most definitely has something to do with it. Not to mention Opium has been used as a cough suppressant for thousands of years, up to present date. And Heroin was originally marketed by Bayer Pharmaceuticals as "the Cure for the Common Cold".

It's the MAO inhibiting beta carbolines present in tobacco smoke that combine with/potentiate the effects of opiates.
Tobacco can change the nature of certain other drug experiences as well, such as those with tryptamines.
Sounds like a nasty potential for polydrug addiction though - regarded by many as two of the most addictive substances used by humans.
When I used opiates, tobacco made me feel (or physically become) ill, as I had no tolerance to them, and suddenly they were potentiated as well. Dodged a bullet there...that's Harm Reduction; knowing the risk before you take the ride...or something.
We all know how deadly tobacco is...that's no War On Drugs (TM) propaganda. Nasty shit, kids.

Yes it is. This quit is going pretty well so far, I've cut down a lot, but when I take subutex the cravings are almost unbearable. They don't pass - just nag me all through the day.
