Ive been on and off opiates for a couple of years, 1stly it was dihydrocodeine, then heroin and oxycodone.. I generally make myself withdrawl so i dont get myself into hot water, though the past year has been mostly on, i gave up about 2 months ago for 3 weeks but then slipped back into using heroin and oxy daily.... So that brings me to my question..

After day 7 or so of withdrawl i start to feel good inmyself, lively, energetic, funny and sociable.. which is nice of course obviously not as nice as being high though otherwise id just be normal i guess.. lol... I find that after occasioal use i feel ok, but once it starts to slip into fairly heavy daily use for a couple of weeks i loose my personality, become moody, and dont really interact with people..

Does anyone else experiance this? Why do opiates do this to one, is it possible to have an addiction to opiates yet still be able to be sociable and intrested in what other people have to say?

Day 2 of withdrawl from oxy now, using codeine every so often just 15-30mg when its required to ease withdrawl a teeenie bit, still feel crap though, but the bone aches arent as bad, not noticed any difference on my personality yet but am hoping after a week ill be lively and full of beans again.
Peace

Dude, i know exactly what you mean. Its scary, because you can see yourself degrading right before your own eyes. Opiate addiction blackens your soul.

For some reason, it just seems to suck out all of my interest in life; i never feel like doing anything. No emotions, just bland nothingness. Its pretty beat.

Im trying to quite opiates, but a really fucking good new connect came about the other day........

strange. opiates are the only things that actually give me back my motivation for life. for the things i used to be interested in. for having fun, doing things, making things, being active. i dunno what you guys are yakkin about, but opiates give me motivation. i WANT to live my live when i'm high on opiates

Most certainly I do, and so do others I know. Its like once you are clean, you are so happy that you are 'free', that for a period of time, you get post WD euphoria. After you go back to using regularly, your neurotransmitters are all out of whack, and that is why unless you are high, you don't feel right. IMO of course.

Opioids make me sociable. Happy, energetic.. but then again I suffer from chronic pain so with out them all I do is sit around all day and hurt like hell ...

But.. I know I need them, and maybe some of what you feel is guilt maybe? Not sure though.. everyone I know says they just make them feel like doing stuff.. Unless your doing so much your nodding all the time, or so buzzed you can't think straight.. then I'd even feel that way.

they used to make me feel all jived up wanting to shoot the shit and be social and talk to strangers walking past....but sometimes the come down comes at a deceptive rate when you blo the oc and leaves me in pissed off state where everyone and everything is acting against me and nothing can go right....just me though. probably just because my endorhins and dopamine are all depleated and i just want to kill my best buds....real scary shit

Yeah opiates make me happy and sociable too.... at first, after using multiple times in a day for a couple of weeks i find i have no desire for life and speaking to friends etc.. I still love em and i like to do stuff on oxy aswell, thing is the euphoric happy bit wears off after a couple of hours leaving me moody and unsociable, the more n more i use it the more i find this the case.

The 1st week of usage poses n problems and i find i really enjoy chatting to people and feeling so friendly but the longer i use opiates the less i can communicate and interact with people, its day 4 now without any oxy, and i feel much better inmyself, i dont feel so anxious either, though the anxiety might have been due to running out of xanax and some small withdrawl from that. This weekend im completly going to do cold turkey get out as much as possible no codeine allowed either, on tuesday i am getting oxies, im gunna try my hardest not to fall back into daily use as it really does take all the fun out of oxy and life.

During/after WD

Nobody seems to have mentioned the rebound emotional stste during and after WD. From my shortish dalliance with opiates, I found that after the physical symproms had succeeded, it still didn't take much to get a massive emotional response (as I've mentioned before, I once found myself in tears at the end of a Lassie type film!).

I think that aspect is almost a response to being emotionally blunted while under the influence of opiates; although they do produce a contented state, they definitly blunt emotional responses. I think it's also that aspect of opiates that allows people dependant on them to do things that, if you hadn't been using them, would play on your mind afterwards. I'm sure that's why some people can steal from very close friends and family, and then try to justify that behaviour when caught.

A couple of years ago, my wife was on pethedine, then high dose dihydrocodeine for a total of 6 months, due to a bad back injury, and at the highest dosage level, she could be selfish and bad tempered (which is far from her normal self) - basically, it nearly split us up. Now she only takes dihydrocodeine occasionally, but thinks that I've exaggerated how much she changed while on high doses. I know that I didn't.

Well the thing to remember is ever person is an individule. SO they are going to respond differently. As far as the crying at the end of a lassie type move when going through withdrawals, That can easilly be explained.. It's one of the worst side effects of opioid addiction. It's called Depression and it hits you hard and fast and you don't even know what it is, untill a few days go by.. You generaly feel ok, but somethings will just hit a nerve that might cause you to break out into tears.. THat's not unusual...

As far as your wife goes.. thats pretty common after back surgories (to become addicted to an opioid) they disscharge you with a month supply or two and you call them up and they just give you more, And I agree that your probably not exaggerating as I have seen some peoples personallity totally flip when on opioids ( become oppisote) but that is rare that that happens...

yeah i think it has to do with everyday use when becoming an opiate asshole, or atleast when you've been using all the day and then you're left with a monster of chemical distortion leaviing you bitter where nothing will change your mood and your days ruined. thats the thing about opiates that i noticed when my dad was on them for very long before he died: that i could easily ruin his high and mood by just doing ONE little wrong thing like leaving a shoe in the hall way. he would flip the fuck out, and maybe he was a junkie, but it was tragic to see him go all ape shit and you could tell his whole afternoon would be ruined. its scary watching yourself become what you thought you would never become by using that oc everyday and becoming a total control freak around my best buddies. i was clean for 3 days and i felt pretty fucking good with no real withdrawls worth speaking of, and then i decided to binge and it ALL CAME BACK. within 2 hours after we snorted 20mg, i became that monster that resembled my father.
also yeah i understand that 'emotional rebound state' that you're going through 'bulbous. ill bet part of it is REM sleep reboud where you finally have real dreams and all of your daily sensory intake can be properly organized and reviewed. if you're a daily weed smoker and you quit you will def. notice the REM rebound as the dreams become vividly insane and it takes a week or so to get back to normal

The loving state where you want to shoot the shit with everyone is the first thing that i loved about opiates.... back when i had Lortab syrup, i didnt know anything about what 'hydrocodone' was except that when i took twice my dose, i would feel warm and fuzzy, as if i was laying in some warm exotic ocean, gently undulating with this awesome feeling.

Its only when there arent any opiates in me when i feel 100% lack of interest in life.

My ultimate flaw with opiates is finding them, and finding the good ones. Much of the high, to me, is having opiates, and a good supply. I am suddenly an IV H user, and to find the ideal shit is the ultimate score, but I am suddenly using so fast, its horrible. Dont ever IV H. I have just opened the door to a personal hell. And I am so wrapped up in it because I want to find the perfect shit.. and I JUST HAVE .. tonight.. some beautiful white heroin that kicks my ass like nothing else. The sad part is is that I will be done with it tmw morning. I will try to get more but I bet the shady guy who gets it will screw me this next round. Its such a shady game. Stick with pills and stick with moderation. Or better yet never even look into it. Enjoy life how it is. Excercise to get the endorphins. Very similiar and much more rewarding..

lol. I hear you there. I had some great cries during my last WD. It felt like I hadn't expressed any emotion (apart from blissful ignorance) for years.

jebba q thats what i mean exactly.. spot on, i can get very pissed off about a shoe in the hallway to..lol.. seems absurd but the tiniest things become a big grumpy deal!
Feel much better now and reliase it really is opiates making me grumpy, thank god! the more days that go by using the worse it all is.

I also recently gave up smoking weed after smoking daily for 4-5 years, i couldnt remeber the last time i didnt have a smoke on the night, its habbit forming is weed but incredibly easy to stop to my suprise.. anyone who says they are addicted to weed its bollx, just a habit and a ritual that they have fallen into, very easy to get out of to my amazement.. I did have some very vivid dreams for the first week but i really quite liked them, i found myself able to get out of bed in the morning and found social anxiety levels dropped dramatically, over using weed is definately a bad thing too.

Maybe ill just grow out of drugs altogether then, i use to like uppers but cant be bothered with the comedowns now, i use to like weed but it makes me too damned lazy and anxious, i use to like alcohol but hate being hungover, i love opiates but am realising on a regular basis it causes bad moods and phycial withdrawl so what is the point.. might aswell be clean and just use opiates from time to time.

I think this statement is on the right track. Also the endogenous opioids get all messed up. Who knows whatelse gets thrown out of whack. I sure felt depressed when I wasn't on when I was using heavier than I am now.

^ me too....now that i am maintainied on suboxone i am at about 50%

when i was strung out on heroin i would either be really social and happy, or sick and depressed...

it just comes with the territory...feeling that good isnt normal. you have to pay something to feel that good all the time..

i think in the long run it has made me more introverted, i am constantly thinking, sizing things up...ppl, situations, emotions ect...i dont remember what i used to be like....
