Opiates and itching..

Im not quite sure how to relieve the itching, or there is any... but does anyone know of anything to prevent/stop the itching.... its driving me to insanity.:p

You may want to try some sort of over the counter anti-histimine, like Benadryl (diphehydramine.) This usually helps, just remember, only take one the first time, because it is a depressant (albeit a mild one) which can increase the respirotory depression caused by opiates.

I personally always liked the itch. :)

The itches drive me nuts as well. I havent found anything to curb it, but I always know when its kicked in when people start asking me why I keep itching my face and arms :D
 
Although this isn't particularily helpful, I've found that the itch tends to subside with continued opiate use.

Benadryl as was said is probably your best bet, though.
 
benadryl works well, but it also knock alot of people the fuck out (especially when combined with opiates). try a non-drowsy antihistamine like reactine or claratin. if you know anyone that has it, singular (a histamine blocker), also helps when taken in combination with an antihistamine.
 
^^^Because opiates stimulate the release of histamine as a side effect.
And I agree with d4n, non-drowsy anti-histamines are the way to go. Claratin always worked well for me. There was another post about this very recently and I gave the same suggestion. You should've done a search.

Singulair (montelukast) isn't actually an anti-histamine. It is a unique type of drug that blocks leukotriene receptors (leukotrienes are inflammatory proteins). Although I've never used Singulair in conjuction with opiates, I don't think it would necessarily help with itching.

I noticed that too, I rarely itch anymore and when I do its not really that bad.

When I do itch I just take Benadryl..helps.

yeah the good old itch. i kinda like it. . .or, rather, don't give a fuck after i've shot a couple bags.

oh, and try a search. i remember this subject being covered a number of times.

i do think it lessens as tolerance increases (just like vomiting), at least thats my experience.

Yea the itch goes away after continued use, either that or you learn to deal with it, its different for everyone. Benedryl works good but it makes me feel weird and spacey, i say fuck it and pull out the back scratcher....
 
Yes the itchies are annoying. Benadryl I wouldn't recommend cause it makes me too sleepy. Claritin all the way on this one, it's nice and OTC now too.
 
Yup

It's definitely related to dose and tolerance for me. At first, I didn't know why I was scratchin' like crazy. Than it hit me. It's one of the least annoying side effects for me. I do believe....everyone is different. Peace

You said that Singulair is a histamine blocker. An anti-histamine is a histamine blocker.

Singulair is certainly a weird one... a totally different kind of asthma drug.
 
Only problem with Claritin being made OTC is the cost! Have ya'll seen how much thoses little boxes of it cost?!?!

Ugh. Still, it's a great suggestion if you can afford it!
