Opiates and hand-eye coordination

Just wondering about something i have been noticing and whether anyone else out there might have any input.

Basically, it has been cold here where i live for the past few months, and i am often chopping wood for the fire.

I have some strong poppy tea every now and again, and when i find myself chopping wood after dosing, something interesting SEEMS to happen: I get more accurate at splitting the wood than usual.

Sober, i can split the timber no worries... but then after having the tea, i can often keep splitting a log right down until it is about 3cm wide at the top with an accuracy that surprises me. (basically i start with logs about 15-inches or so in diameter, split them a few times, so it is split into four our five pieces).

Anyway, all the talk of timber cutting is irrelevant, but it has just seemed that i can be noticeably more accurate at hand-eye coordination tasks while under the influence of opiates.

Anyone think this is just my imagination, or anyone ever noticed anything similar at all?

Comments either way would be cool. I in no way would mind people telling me i am just a moron imagining things. :)
 
i, personally, have never noticed any kind of improvement of hand eye coordination when on opiates. often if im even concentrating on anything it is HARDER to be coordinated due to the fact im often cross eyed trying to fight off a nod.
 
He he, i could imagine that certainly would make things harder.

I never usually have enough of an opiate to nod. When i go to sleep i get that half awake half asleep state, but with any doses i am always still in a very much awake state unless i intentionally want to relax.

I usually play slightly worse, as far as fretting chords and playing melodies everything is fine, perhaps even improved, but its hard for me to play in time when I'm high on opiates. Makes it almost impossible to sing and play.
 
Never really noticed anything, unless you count an unusually high sedating dose. I never nod, regardless of dose, unless I'm very tired or if I'm on other sedatives(especially benzo's). So that's never been an issue with me. Probably why I don't have any issues about driving under the influence of opiates.
 
Mine usually gets worse. I was just outside having a smoke while nodding pretty hard and half the time when id go to take a drag of my smoke if end up sucking on my finger instead lol :p
 
I've noticed that right away when it starts to kick in that it helps me focus on the task that I'm doing instead of feeling tired or worried.

That would make me more coordinated than I would be.
That's all that I have noticed. But it certainly doesn't impare my coordination.

Maybe thats why it helps? I don't know.

I don't know where I heard this but in some culture they used to give a little opium to warriors or something. And not to kill pain. It would help fight fatigue or something.
 
In my earlier years of opiate use I used to take norcos, lortabs, ect at work because it did make me focus on things alot more and to be frank I got alot more done, this continued for quite some time until I started doing blasters at work, it seemed to keep me on track for awhile. After alot fo this going on I would not be able to focus on the current task but for some reason would start other tasks and get side-tracked. That and my co-workers would catch me in a nod at my desk.

All in all light opiate use I have seen a differance in my concentration and the way I do things, any more then light use and it may be a different sotry.

It probably isn't in my best interests as a newbie to say this, but as a fellow opiate/opioid user and guitarist of 14 years...

Are you sure it doesn't just sound better to you?
I always would zone out on playing when i smoked weed and thought I played better, but I wonder if it was because i was just stoned.

Also, everyone talks about "nodding" all the time. I take some pretty decent doses of oxymorphone and morphine and that shit makes me into a busy bee.
I want to build shit, talk about shit. Why does it make me so hyped while seemingly everyone else fights concsiousness from it?

P.S: I'm sure you're an awesome guitarist MB... just not as awesome as me.

The only problem i have is sometimes when i take my oxy and near the end of the day i have to close one eye to read anything on the computer. If i don't i see double. It frustrates the heck out of me.

I don't see double really bad but its enough to wear i have to close one eye. I've read on a few forums that a few other people have to do this as well.

As for anything else, i don't notice anything worse or better but i haven't really been paying attention. Interesting though.

Okay, to redeem myself....

I think that my hand eye coordination is improved at every dosage level i have tried thus far of opiates/-oids. I love playing catch; football, baseball, whatever. I think i am better at catching while under the influence.
 
You know what, the same thing happens for me. I'm a bowler and six out of the eight 300 games i've bowled and all of the 800 series i've had were done under the heavy influence of 120mgs of so of oxycontin. Bowling requires a ton of hand-eye coordination and I am much more coordinated while opiated. Actually I think I do just about everything better under the influence.
 
I havnt really taken the time to notice but i would say it has something to with your response time being slowed down and your more steady allowing you to focus more . which would seem odd for a downer .. but hey anything is possible
 
I shoot handguns and rifles, sometimes shotguns too... opiates/opioids don't cause any problems like shaking hands or hand eye coordination difficulties. Opiates/opioids give steady hands and sharp eyes.

Skills and spatial perception are likewise OK.

Hunting and skeet shooting might be problem to non-tolerant user who gets overly sedated. Habituated users have no problems.

There are no special problems concerning handling things which require exact hand-eye coordination and good orientation in spatial world or frame. Opiate users are clear-headed and -handed, nothing like alcoholics, barbiturate users and benzo-heads.
