For around 2 weeks I took an average of 40 mg of hydrocodone a day. I stopped taking on Monday. I'm going through withdrawal for the first time in my life and it's scary as hell. I'm hoping someone with similar expirience can help me through withdrawal and give me a time period I can expect it to stop. I'm never going to touch another pill again... help me.

Since these are your first w/d's... expect fairly intense symptoms over the next 3-4 days. Depending on age, you could feel like a new man by day 5. It's really not that long lasting, not real opiates. Buprenorphine is the devil, though. Sick for weeks.

But, yes, hot and cold flashes, sweating, chills, goosebumps, just a general feeling of not being able to feel settled in. Restless legs at night. Reminds me... insomnia. Yet, extreme lethargy. Expect to be dozing off/napping at least once a day over the next 3 days. Maybe 4. But, after that, I can almost guarantee you'll be over it, or feel SO much better you think you are completely over it... with only 2 weeks under your belt of hydrocodone use. I know it feels bad... short half life opiate withdrawals hit fast and hard. That's why you feel caught off guard and scared. But, all I can do is tell you it will be over... and it will be over soon. In the meantime, do NOT take other opiates to help you get by. It will just reset all you've gained. THC is great during withdrawals, but I can't actually recommend that unless you live somewhere it's legal.

The symptoms may feel severe, but it's all about perspective. You are lucky. Go ahead and let your body heal. Rest. Sleep. Hydrate. Eat. Vitamins. Time. It will be over much sooner than it feels for you.

Oh boy... the same words came out of my mouth so many times... It doesn't work that way buddy...

But to answer your question, 40mg Hydrocodone = approx. 15mg Heroin, which is not a big deal. All of the symptoms will be gone within 7 days, just try to force yourself to eat a bit and don't forget to drink some water. I'm no expert in opiate w/d (I can help with benzo w/d though), but then again, you don't really need to worry. If you have troubles sleeping / restless legs then take some Valium, and if you have "bowl movement issues" then take anti-diarrhea meds. Hope this helped.

Thank you for the reply. I'm only 19 and I'm scared honestly. The constant mood swings and hot/cold flashes are killing me. I'm going to just push through. I took off work today because I woke up feeling aweful, but I can't keep doing it so any tips for suffering through work? Also will the symptoms gets worse or better tomorrow?

After these withdrawals you actually go back to the drug?! Its only been 2 days and I'm not even sure I'll drink ever again. This has me scared more than i've been in a long time... Thank you for the Reply and you're help. I hope this is all over soon.

Hey man,
You can do this. Just dont go back.
Now when I was 19 I had some hooks on perscriptions, dont know if you do. But, ask around for Lyrica (Gabapentin) people with pain issues are perscribed and buy some Imodium (Loperamide) It is an opiate that does not cross the blood brain barrier (well it does, but gets pumped right back out, long story).

This is what day 3 for you? Should be out of the worst.

I started with pills few years later than you, went to dope (never injected), now im fucking 27 and besdies school and experience running a business, still at square one . Just fucking trust me. Stop. Dont go back. I know you say you wont, but in the back of your head or down the road you will want the experience again. RESIST THE FUCKING URGE. Holy shit save yourself a lot of trouble and dont do it again.

Oh, we all have our own story of how we FINALLY became addicted. Mine started with 5mg hydros, every so often. Then splitting roxy 30's and making them last 3 times. I was also taking everything oral, when I started. I thought I had it all under control. Now I've got a scar on my left arm, a smaller one on my right arm (one from ER visit to cut open abscess, the other from just wearing out the same spot, both from IV). I have about 4 drugs in my system. I can't stop because of withdrawals. The main issue is the buprenorphine. Whatever you do, NEVER get on that stuff. I'd rather quit a 100mg oxy a day habit than quit 8mg a day of bupe. That's me, though.

BTW, if today is your day 3, tomorrow you should finally notice a nice improvement. Being young works WONDERS at getting over withdrawals.

Thank you all for giving me the motivation and want to get through this. I will try as hard as possible to never give into urges again to take pain killers. The high was not worth the repercussions and as of right now i never want to see these drugs again. Thank you so much for helping me through this. I don't have anyone else to turn to...

It caught me so of gaurd because I took these pills not knowing there would be any withdrawals to stopping. I easily stopped sunday night and hadn't thought about them until I woke up today in horrid pain after a long sleepless sweaty night...

Your welcome we are glad to help especially when you have no one else to turn to, but let me reiterate just to push the point home:
Just fucking trust me.

Stop.

Dont go back.

Oh and one more thing you said it caught you off guard, you didint realize that hydrocodone will give you withdrawal...

For your own sake do a google search of other opiate medications and avoid all those as well as they will (virtually and most probably) all give you withdrawal with extended use.

Anything ending with codone, but that is not it, like I said do a little research before you go gettin high.
Also, benzodiazapines (ala Xanax (alprozalam (sp?)) and the such) will also give you withdrawal symptoms with extended use)

Love to get high, hate the consequences. Be responsible. Stay safe.

Don't ever get into benzos. W/D from benzos is far worse than withdrawing from 2gram a day heroin. Hydrocodone by itself is a piss poor mu-agonist, most of its effects come from the fact that it metabolizes into hydromorphone in your liver, the same way oxycodone metabolizes into Oxymorphone, DHC to dihydromorphine, Desocodeine to desomorphine and so on...

Thanks all for the information and will definitely be smarter next time I decide to try and get high. I feel like such an idiot but you all are very helpful so thank you all very much. I'm on day 4 now and I was able to go to work today and it sucked but I made it through, not much left to deal with besides some pretty bad constipation.
