Ok. To start off I'm 15 and I've been taking hydrocodone 10mg off and on for 2 years for back pain. It's been about a month (June 30) since I've taken any. The reason why I wasn't was because I started to develop anxiety and panic disorder so i had to get that in check and now I am currently taking Klonopin 2mg every 6-8 Hours for SEVERE anxiety attacks. My question now is before i had a tolerance to hydrocodone (& other opiates such as oxycodone) of about 50 - 60mg. I would take up to 60mg of hydrocodone in each dose. Now since it's been a month since I've taken any how much do you think my tolerance has gone down. I was thinking of taking 20mg and That would help really good.

~ I've also heard mixing opiates and benzos are quite good? anybody know anything about that?

It can be 'good' ie. sedating but it's even more dangerous. The leading cause of opioid-related overdose.

Definitely start lower than you'd think - maybe even below 20mg. Just the first time to see how you react. You can always add more, right? Can't resuscitate yourself though.

Look into respiratory depression for more information.

Benzo's and opiates combined can be nice, I like to take my benzos as I'm coming off of the opiates though, cause I feel benzos dull the opiate euphoria. But yeah be very, very careful with dosing because combining sedatives can very realistically kill you if you take too much.

You are very young to be abusing your pain medication. This would mean you were 13 years old taking this stuff. Please don't take it for other purpose that to relieve pain. Your brain is in development. You need to learn health coping skills and how to socialize with out drug use.

I know drugs seem cool and can you have your click of people who do the same things as you. You are way too young to be taking that much medication to get high.

With the path you are on you will have a hard life with addiction. Please stop and think about what you are doing now.

What happened to your back?

Be careful when mixing your clonazepam with the hydrocodone. Start with 10-15mgs, just to be sure. There are good chances you will feel pain relief even at that dosage.

You can always titrate your dose upwards, man. Never down.

As a fellow back pain sufferer I sympathize with you and definitely think you should be using your pain medicine if you need it. There are a bunch of OTC meds that can potentiate your hydrocodone, simply use the search engine to find the thread.

You definitely need to start slowly after a month, taking your 'normal dose' after a long break is a very typical way to OD and die, I had a friend from rehab last year take his normal oxy dose after 5 weeks and was dead the day he got back from rehab.

So, start slow and maybe use some of those potentiation techniques to get the most out of your pain medicine, but make sure you DO NOT use your benzos simultaneously with your pain meds. A few hours before or after should keep you safe, considering hydrocodone's half life means 50% of the hydrocodone would be eliminated within 2 1/2 - 3 hours.

PM Me if you have further questions or about back issues. I'm up to my fourth surgery since 2008, with two just in the last 5 months (spinal fusion)

thanks so much for the advice! I was actually kind of scared to take the hydro since I've developed my anxiety disorder. Because it makes me think the worst as you should probably know. But yea thanks i will take you advice and only take 10mg and they have 325 of tylenol in them they are lortab 10/325 I believe. My back pain and anxiety are both very severe so thanks for the advice i will try to take doses apart.

^ Taking the doses apart, a great choice for sure. Good on ya, for actually checking before you did it, and then actually following the harm reduction advice you got.

Do not abuse your medications, I too have been taking this shit since I was a kid.

Combined, these medications can kill you. You need to be so smart about this and learn all about the medications your taking, since a doctor is trusting you, a 15 year old kid with highly potent CNS depressants which combined have been linked as the cause of death of countless accidental overdoses every year.

You're prescribed 6-8mg of Klonopin a day, this seems pretty insane to me considering your age. I'm NOT the kind of person who thinks that because you're young, you can't possibly require these medications, trust me, my youth has gotten in the way of me receiving proper medical care so many times I hate when people assume that young people can't have health problems that require medication.

However, you really need to take into consideration that you are prescribed an amount of Klonopin than most adults ever would in their whole lives never are prescribed. Clonazepam has such a long half life that you're going to have built up active metabolites and clonazepam in your system, even 24-48 hours after your last dose of clonazepam. You must factor this in when you're dosing hydrocodone. Hydrocodone has a very short half life.

I would urge you to get off clonazepam, even with severe anxiety you need to be thinking about alternative options. You would get much further with some good cognitive behavioral therapy, guided imagery, exposure, working closely with a psychologist. Besides Klonopin, how are you managing your anxiety?

Do your parents know about these medications and how they work? Including all of the risks? More importantly, have they been explained to you?

You're at a high risk of accidental overdose and fatal respiratory depression with your dosing patterns, I would take this very seriously especially since you're obv abusing your medication on top of therapeutic use.

for one im allergic to all the anti depressents. (prozac, paxil, wellbutrin, celexa) they all make my heart race for 6 hours straight. I'm taking the klonopin to keep me calm bcuz there is an underlying problem with my adrenaline or heart!!! ok!!! thats my klonopin dose dont act like its too much or whatever i had panic attacks up to 5 times a day and they would last for hours!!! i would hyperventilate so much my muscles would give out and all i could do was lay down!!! so dont even go there ok i was asking a question. since i suffer from hyperventilation syndrome also i highly doubt i could die from fatal respiratory depression. hahaha only if u knew me and how i was..... everyone's different ok!

Good luck sport. Please don't take people's responses on here to heart. They are only trying to help and obviously had no idea you have such a severe medical condition. I wish you the best in recovery and management. Hang in there! <3

You can get all defensive if you want, but all of those allergies you have, your "underlying problem with adrenaline or heart", all of that is information that would have been crucial to include in your original post. It's an online forum, we don't know you, all we know is what you tell us, and that's what we base our responses on.

Hyperventilation syndrome does not mean jack shit, mixing strong CNS depressants such as opioids and benzodiazepines (lortab and klonopin) will depress your breathing.

If you read my post, you'll see that I mentioned that even though most people would think it's insane to prescribe 6mg clonazepam to a 15 year old who's also taking opioids, but that I understand every patient has different needs, myself included. I also hope that you find some relief from your medical conditions.

However, before you pull the "so don't even go there" card, please realize that no one here meant you any disrespect or offense, quite the opposite really. We are attempting to keep you safe from yourself, and it's hard to do this if you shut down and block out when people who try to give insight, and if you read my post I think you'll find that it had good intentions and advice.

All we're trying to do is make sure you are fully aware about these medications, potential risks and things to watch out for. That way, while your abusing your medication you will be making informed decisions, and hopefully avoid hurting or killing yourself along the way.

I sincerely hope that you don't actually believe that because you hyperventilate, that it somehow makes you invincible to the respiratory depression induced by strong CNS depressants, because that could not be more wrong.
