Opiate tolerance shot up all of a sudden

I've been taking oxycodone and hydrocodone now orally for about 3 months on and off, purely for recreational purposes. I was taking about 30mg a day and then almost as though someone flipped a switch, my tolerance literally shot up. Over a one week period I tried the following:
First 40mg, then the next day, 50mg and ultimately 65mg and still I hardly feel it and when I did, it would be minimal and it wouldn't last very long. It was as if though my body put its foot down and said, end game. No more for me.

Is this normal for someone's tolerance to suddenly just shoot up like that? How long will it be before my tolerance most likely goes down enough that I can take 30mg and catch a nice buzz?

You can't take drugs on consecutive days like that. Doing so will cause the increase in tolerance that you are currently experiencing.

Step one is to take a break of at least a week, but preferably 2 (the more the better, but I know it may be unlikely).

Step two is to lower the amount that you use to once a week, two at the most.

At once a week your tolerance should stay the same, and at twice a week it might stay the same, but will likely increase a bit, and is enough to cause physical dependence. When I use only on weekends I can get high on the same dose on saturday, but on sunday I need a decent amount more. If I were to space it out to every 3-4 days I think that it would still cause an increase in tolerance, or at least cause the drugs to wear off faster.

Hi there OP,

This thread is more appropriate for Basic Drug Discussion, and thus I will move it over there. You'll definitely get the help ya need, my friend :)

Tommynoy wrapped it up perfectly - daily use will rape your tolerance, and to reduce it the only thing to do is take a LONG break - a 3 month binge for me meant my tolerance was tripled still over a year later.

Whoa...wow.. thanks all. That's so obvious, funny how I couldn't see something right in front of me.

My withdrawals aren't too bad either really, so I'm very fortunate and am taking this opportunity to taper down. If I feel really fatigued or get an upset stomach I take a 5mg Oxy and it chills me out for an entire day and then I can sleep at night too. Now I'm down to 5mg - 10mg a day. 5mg first thing in the morning and then if I can't sleep, 5mg at night. Hope to be down to 5mg every other day in a few days and then totally off or using only if I can't sleep at all. At this point, I'm not getting high, just getting through the day at my normal pace.

For what it worth my tolerance went way up the ONE month that I used once a week(almost). I dosed 17.5mg hydrocodone 3 of the 4 Saturdays in March (with great effects) and the last Sat I took 20mg oxy and felt next to nothing. I took the next 5 weeks off to get most of the good feelings back at my regular hydro dose.

My normal dosage is 30-40mg of oxycodone to get high.

So...a few weeks ago I noticed that taking 5-15mg of oxycodone in the morning, after a good night's rest entailing six + hours of REM sleep has consistently been very effective for whatever reason. I definitely feel a nice buzz. Now if I took 5-15mg in the late afternoon on an empty stomach and I'd not feel any buzz whatsoever.

I also noticed that, if I were feeling stomach discomfort and or really fatigued from withdrawals; after eating taking 5-15mg of oxycodone, I'm able to go about my business and even head to the gym for a workout. So, the medicine is working pretty good, I get my energy back and the stomach pain and discomfort are gone. I'm just not feeling that warm glow that we all love so much. That said, "How good you feel from the narcotics and how well the medicine is working don't seem to be as closely related as I previously thought." Has anyone else experienced the same/similar symptoms?

Actually daily use does not do anything magical to your tolerance, it it the dose-increasing cycle that does. Some see it as the same though.

Sorry...

I´d say there has to be something else in this story, because the physical tolerances just should not suddenly shoot up somewhere without actions. Take account the psychological aspects also.

I agree with TommyBoy, don't use it more than once a week. I take about what you take and I've been using once a week for over a year without much increase in tolerance. My advice is take on an empty stomach for best results (unless you get nausea), DON'T give in to the urge to increase the dose, and use potentiators (BL has a great megathread on the subject) - those increase the buzz without having to resort to higher oxy or hydro dose.

Just to remind that potientiation is acually pretty much the same than just increasing the dose in normal way. Some people hide behind this like taking only xx amount of the drug but than potentiated with whaetever potentiates. Potentiating is for those who dont want so spend so much money on a drug but instead potentiate it. Anyway, potentiation does what it does and it is equivalent of taking more of the drug in normal way. But there´s no shortcuts really in avoiding addiction.

Another thing related to reacreational opioid use is that everyone should mainatain their daily enrdophin-producing acitivies such as. exercise, sauna, sex or whatever you like. I think this can have a major effect on tolerancy-buildinp-up and dependency-issuses. Beucause the more you let your own endorphin-system sleep, the worse it gets when you eventually have to give up on your DOC.
