Opiate tolerance question...

3 months ago, my tolerance for hydrocodone left me having to take 25-30 mg. I have been on hydro a couple times a week and my tolerance seems to have skyrocketed to 50-60mg. I have taken this dose recreationally (cwe's common, don't worry) my last..about..6 times taking hydro. Then I took 45 mg, and felt absolutely nothing. I took 60 mg the time after that, again experiencing great effects.

Today, I found 2 vicodin (5/500) in my cabinet, and took them about 40 minutes ago, totaling 10 mg of hydrocodone, and I feel like I'm on my full dose of hydro! Euphoria, comfort, well being, feeling warm inside...a great opiate high.

So I guess my question is, how is this possible? Or am I just having a placebo effect? It's not possible for my tolerance to have diminished since the last time (5 days ago) that I took it is it?

Anyway, thanks for responses, im gonna go enjoy this while it lasts.

*it should be noted that I also took 1 Zyrtec D about an hour ago for allergies (120 mg psuedoephedrine hcl, though I believe it's on a 12 hour time release). I have been taking these regularly for about a week though, and havent experienced much of a psychoactive effect from them, other than perhaps a slight energy lift, which I do have right now, at the same time as feeling sedated?

Drugs aren't purely physiological. There is a large mental aspect as well. I have taken 120mg of Oxy and barely felt anything other than some nods, then the next day taken 40mg and had a nice euphoria going. Your state of mind has a lot to do with it.

SPC, do you think you can go into some more detail about how this sort of thing occurs? I am curious myself, for I require constant opiate use (oxycodone, and to a lesser extent, hyrocodone) for pain and W/D prevention, and thus almost never have any extra to "have fun" with. It would be nice if this sort of thing happened to me...

My best guess is your loosing most of your hydro during your cwe. Or it could be the other meds as most allergy meds do increase the effects of the hydro.

I am like you. I will get sick if I don't dose, so I end up preparing myself for getting sick. I look at my last 2 pills and say "man, this is barely going to stave of WDs". And it usually doesn't. This one particular day I wasn't really craving it mentally. I could feel the physical WDs coming on, but for whatever reason I was in a mindset where I didn't really care. It was kinda like "eh, I've done this before, no biggie". And I had my last two pills sitting there and was more or less "well, might as well try to enjoy my last hit". I put WD's completely out of my mind. Went on to work and focused on my job, and the next thing I knew, I was getting that warm feeling in my limbs and chest.

I don't have a scientific explanation. All I can suppose is that if you're happy***, your body is producing a natural high. The drugs must have augmented that.

***Of course usually when I get to my last 2 pills, I'm not very happy. I'm usually stressed. And that's counteractive to a good buzz in the best of circumstances.

If I'm reading this correctly and you are only using 50-60mg of Hydrocodone 2x/week, your tolerance could easily have dropped in a matter of 5 days. Also, Foxy makes an excellent point - if you're using a CWE every time you dose, you're not actually getting the full 50-60mgs that you think you are.

As for the Zyrtec D, cetirizine does not effectively potentiate opiates, neither does pseudoephedrine, so it seems unlikely that this would be a contributing factor.
