Not sure if this is the correct forum to be posting up in but does anyone else ever have odd nightmares while on opiates? I can dream about something horrible (like last night) someone getting beaten to a bloody pulp then waking up just before their head is dipped in a pot of boiling water; yet I feel no terror or disgust in the actual dream, almost indifferent, until I wake up and think about how horrible it is. And normally I wake up around 2/3am when this happens and do go back to sleep but the dreams return and are always much stranger than "normal" dreams.

Does anyone else have experience with what I'm talking about?

Opiates are notorious for causing strange and vivid dreams. They tend to make me 'loop' dreams.. Like I will wake up and start doing something and realize I'm still asleep, then I will wake up .. only to realize I'm still asleep. It was very scary the first couple of times and it always happened literally 15 minutes after actually falling asleep.

Yeah, I've been there. It's hardly an unknown occurrence.

First time it happened to me I woke up freaked. I was dreaming about these rabid, frothing at the mouth doctors who wanted to shoot me up with more oxy... chasing me down dark halls and spitting and howling like mad dogs all the while. Fucking unpleasant stuff.

But yeah, you get that.

That reminds me of some scenes in Ray (the movie about Ray Charles). Personally I have never had nightmares caused by opiates, but they are not unheard of.

it only happened once and it was in unfamiliar surroundings (hotel room) but i once awoke out of a nod with a feeling of abject terror. my girl reports that sometimes she experiences same; i never really believed it until it happened to me! just part of the game, i guess. i wouldn't let it bug you too much. if i had any trouble getting back to sleep, i just topped off a little bit and i was fine...

I've had them a couple times, but they almost feel like a nodding session gone wrong more than a nightmare. I find they only happen on higher doses though, so it might help to lower yours a bit.

Oh yeah, I've had some extreme night terrors after oxy abuse. Last week I feel asleep with a Harry Potter movie playing and had a nightmare that someone was in the house and it woke me up but I was still in deep REM sleep so I was temporarily paralyzed. The lamp on my dresser basically turned into a Dementor who noticed me when I made a noise and turned toward me. I figured it out in a few seconds and woke up but it was frightening.

Next was the night after I heard about that British soldier who got hacked up in the streets of England by two Muslims. In my dream I was being warned that I had to wake up because someone was going to kill me and my girlfriend in bed. So I started screaming "wake me up!" to my girlfriend (in real life) and when she did I was paralyzed again and the robe hung on my door looked like a terrorist. My heart was gonna explode.

I've also had pleasant dreams so its not all bad, interesting mini dreams in nod land. One hell of a drug!

Funny, I didnt dream a single time in 5-6 years because of opiates. Dreaming again in the last 6 months has been a trip.

I get frequent dreams where I wake up right before I die or even worse I'll wake up right before I take a shot of tar. Makes for a trying day haha

Haha damn Larc. I feel for you mate. I've dreamt about stumbling upon stashes of oxy's and morphines. It's allways bitter sweet. I've woken up fully convinced I had a box of oxy's in my top drawer. Of course when I realise I don't have them i'm disappointed but relieved at the same time :)

Most of my dreams on opiates are of course wonderful, it just seems when the nightmares come theyre exceptionally strange.
