So far my doctor has prescribed me bisacodyl 5mg tablets to take 4 times a day as needed and docusate 100mg tablets as a stool softener to be taken up to 4 times a day and no more than 500mg a day, my problem is that when i go to poop its still kind of painful but definitely a little easier than before and now i am going to be heading to Walgreens in a bit to buy some Polyethylene Glycol 3350 to combine with the doocusate and bisacodyl..is that a good idea or bas to combine Polyethylene Glycol 3350 with docusate and bisacodyl which is a stimulant laxative?
also i recently have been having hemorrhoid problems so i'm going to be purchasing wich hazel wipes, preparation H ointment and also preparation H suppositories..my other question is would you guys suggest tucks ointment over preparation H and also would you guys recommend prep H or tucks suppositories for hemorrhoids? the ingredients in the ointment and suppositories are quite different

the prep H ointment's active ingredients are Mineral oil 14%, Petrolatum 71.9% and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%
Tucks ointment active ingredients are Mineral Oil 46.6%, Pramoxine HCI 1%, and Zinc Oxide 12.5%

Prep H suppositories active ingredients are Cocoa butter 85.39% and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%
and Tucks suppositories active ingredients is just Topical Starch 51%

It's a good idea. Stool softener plus stimulant laxative is a good combination for opioid-induced constipation.. docusate is more of a stimulant laxative than a stool softener, although there is overlap.

As for your haemorrhoids.. different things suit different people. Cream is better for external haemorrhoids, suppository for internal ones. The idea behind them is to constrict the blood vessels as well as sooth the general area.

Good luck! Make sure you are getting plenty of fibre, drinking lots of water and exercising as much as possible too :)

If opiates are causing your constipation, I would avoid mixing laxatives and softeners, it's just gonna complicate things in the long run.

Opt for more natural methods. I recommend blending plenty o ginger root and celery into a smoothie. Tastes absolutely awful, but it will make you shit, plus celery is a natural stool softener sooo ya try it out

oh and cayenne pepper..
use a cayenne tincture regularly and you will be shitting like theres no tomorrow

Your smoothie may well work really well, I don't know so am not going to dispute it :) but as a general point just because something is natural doesn't necessarily make it better than something that isn't.. Senna is a natural stimulant laxative but too much can be very irritating and cause severe cramps, for example, and there isn't a clear distinction between natural remedies and medication..

I agree that you shouldn't take meds you don't need, but opioid constipation can be really severe and even dangerous so sometimes you do need to resort to them. If other things work then that's great, but as the OP has got some benefit from his meds I think it's fair enough to continue..

Caffeine, at least for me, has the opposite effect. It makes my opiate constipation worse because of it's diuretic properties sucking all the liquids out of me. I would recommend at least limiting your intake somewhat if you're severely constipated so your bowels (hopefully) can retain more liquids. At least that's my theory.

This should be fine, although it sucks if you use it too often and become dependent on it, no fun at all. Try to rotate laxatives and other stool softeners, keep your water intake extra high, and eat fiber when you can. Epsom salt is an awesome laxative, that has always saved me when the constipation got really bad.

You might need a pencil to work it out. JK. Try otc miralax. It regulates you. Take 1 magnesium 500 mg pill everyday. Hemmoroids are a "pain in the butt".
Oh yeah, if you feel close and can't go: coffee & a cigarette will make it happen.

I know this doesnt help right now but i've seen in the media that companies are working on additives for opioids that are supposed to negate the constipation that the opioids produce .

^ yeah, there is already one available containing oxycodone and naloxone (an opioid antanonist but it only affects the GI tract if you take it orally, so it doesn't block oxycodone's CNS effects, only the GI ones ie constipation). There was a thread about it recently I think but I'm a bit dazed right now so I can't quite remember, sorry :)
