Opiate Expiration

Alright so I cleaned out my medicine cabinet today, and I found an old bottle of Promethazine with Codeine. The bottle says it expired in '08, and I'm curious if it's still safe to use? To my knowledge, the only drugs that can become poisonous after expiration are antibiotics, and that most drugs just lose potency.

Now in the case that it is safe to drink, Would it even be worth it? It's about half of a 240ml bottle, how much would I have to take to get an effect?

Also, I found a few 5/500 APAP Vicodin that 'expired' in '09, would those even be worth to take?

The promethazine with codeine I would check the inactive ingredients on, because there might be some in there that do expire or degrade into nasties. The 5/500s, I don't see why not. The shelf life of most opiates are pretty moderate-long (claimed to be low but from at least my subjective experience much longer than claimed), like 5-10 years at least. Just don't go overboard on the APAP.

Yeah I'm aware of acetaminophen dosages. I generally do cold water extraction when I take multiple tabs that have over 2000mg of APAP.

But back to the codeine. It says;
PROMETH/CODEINE SYP (HI-T)
Generic for: PHENERGAN W/CODEINE SYP WYET

and that's it. It doesn't say anything else besides my pharmacy, name, doctor and general prescription info.

I wouldn't worry about anything in the syrup then; if any of the ingredients were perishable in their combination they'd be required to state so on the package I imagine. I'll try and find some research to back this up.

Alright thanks man! It would definitely be less potent though, right? Lets say a tablespoon is 15mg (idk what it actually is) should I double/triple up?

My knowledge of shelf-life in suspension is pretty limited, but I assume if it's lost potency it hasn't lost that much. If I didn't have a tolerance I'd start with two tablespoons and then wait, because prometh potentiates codeine a good bit.

Edit: that's assuming it's 15mg, I am not sure what the dose is

I already did a quick CWE with the Vic's, and took some dph to potentiate it. Do you think it be alright to take a couple swigs of the codeine later tonight? Or should I wait till the hydros are no longer in effect? Just curious, most of my drug knowledge is of canibus, not opiates.

Well, the DPH and Prometh are both sedatives, hydro and codeine as well (though partial stimulants for the latter two) so combining all of those in large amounts could be dangerous. Personally if I were to redose (again with no tolerance) I'd wait til the first one peaked (vics take about 30-50min) and then do a small redose, lather rinse repeat. Just because antihistamines potentiate opiates quite a bit (or some like prometh do).

For instance when I used to do syrup/vics in combo and had a tolerance, my regimen on an average night would be like:
0:00 CWE 30mg hydro
0:45 CWE 15mg hydro
1:45 one or two tablespoons of syrup

But this isn't my dosing suggestion, just what I had done in the past with a tolerance.

Alright, I think I'll just save it for the weekend. The DPH and Vic's have me feeling pretty good. No need to potentially harm myself if I'm already doped up ha.

Ok so the hydros are kinda wearing off lol. I only took 25mg, but since I did CWE I'm guessing I got slightly less. Along with like 200mg of DPH.

I dosed at like 6:30-7:30pm, and it's 10:10pm now. Do you think I be right to dose like an ounce of the syrup? Idk how much prometh:codeine is in a dose, but I'll try to figure it out.
