Opiat withdraw

Having some withdraw effects from not having my pain medication for 2days, Hot and cold sweats, very very restless legs. Last night i took a sleeping pill along with 3 gravol to try and put me asleep but the leg restlessness still kept me up all night.

Someone told me, gabapentins help curb withdraw from opiats?

Any truth to this, If so how large of a dose is needed?

What sleeping pill were you taking? GABA drugs can help with the symptoms of withdrawal, such as anxiety, twitches, and sleep problems, but it won't relieve the WD symptoms outright.

What drug were you using, what doses, and over what time period? It's usually best to taper off opis, if you have any leftovers.

was using hydromorph contin oral for a few years, intranasal for 6months. dont have any left to taper off. 12mg caps, any where from 3 to 7 a day

I was told to use gaba intranasal for bettter effect? can it be used this wa

Damn, that's pretty heavy to be cold turkeying from. GABA refers to a class of drugs rather than a specific type of drug, so what you're looking for is gonna be benzos.

Recommend trying to get some OTC opis (codeine etc.) and trying to taper with that.

Don't have a huge amount of experience with WDs myself though so hopefully someone else more knowledgeable in this can elaborate.

Ouch I feel for you. I would go get some loperamide you can get it over the counter its an opiate that doesnt cross the blood brain barrier. That means it wont get you high but it will help the physical symptoms of withdrawl. I would start at around 15mgs wait 2 or 3 hours then see how you feel be sure to drink plenty of water as it can cause nasty constipation. The thing about loperamide is that if you are trying to permanetly quit opiates then need to taper off of it otherwise it will just prolong the inevitable.

Gabapentin (Neurontin) would help, yes. Take up to 300 mg three or four times a day to subdue withdrawal symptoms.

Loperamide is an excellent idea. 16mg of loperamide is a good starting point, it takes a while to really kick in but it fixes quite a bit of the physical symptoms and has saved my ass on several occasions. You can take more if you need to but once it starts working you should be fine for about 24 hours. Of course stay hydrated, the constipation isn't much worse than with other full-agonist opiates but it can be a little "next-level."
