I just got a new prescription of opana er 40 mg and i'm getting nothing from this pill... its gel and i've cut it up into small pieces and took 3 at a time and it gives me no pain relief or any buzz. Are their any tricks of the trade? Alot of people seem to love these things but so far it doesn't help me at all i've been having to rely on my breakthrough meds oxy 15mg instant release but i'd like to save the roxi and do something with the opana to get it to work. Why do people like the opana so much...can anyone tell me how i can get more out of the pill? Thanks

Forgot to mention my doctor said if the opana doesn't work since they started me on 20mg and just upped it to 40 mg the next step is the fetanyl patch... i need to get out of pain I need some advice. The nucynta 200mg er did nothing also.

May I suggest you getting the Opana in the 15mg Generic formula, old style. Thats if he willing to RX you either 30mg or 45mg at a time. Being a CPP there is a world of difference in effectiveness. Opana changed their formula, which is 99% of what you have right now, which is complete crap. The 15mg is the old formula, however it is generic and the closest thing to the old formula. Thats what I am on, and it doesn't compare to Endo's new TRF.

Try getting some acidic juice (orange juice is good as well as apple) and suck the pill coating off with a sip of apple juice in your mouth to allow the skin to dissolve in it and once it is dissolved swallow the juice and not the pill. Than take another sip and chew on the pill as it is in the juice so any oxy gets absorbed up in the juice so when you swallow it than it will make it to the stomach.

Also eat a fatty meal (like a buttery piece of bread or oily meat) as it will increase the oral BA to 30%.

I hope this helps... The new formula is CRAP. The person above is right that there are 15 mg generics that you can get, but I think they would question you asking for a lower dose after you started with one higher and had to go up after that. Also be weary of fentanyl due to the way it will increase the shit out of your tollerance from what I read. It is supposed to be a very good opiate for pain relief though.

Also have you tried Dilaudid? That has a higher BA and may work.

Levorphanol might also be worth a shot if you are really concerned about the pain and not the nod as it is pretty effective due to lacking in cross tolerance with morphine. I did find that it created a VERY bad dependancy that left me withdrawing really bad after a couple months of using as recommended (4 mg a day in 2 mg twice a day with sometimes taking 6 mg total doubling up the dose at night when it was not effective although it was not often).

This article may help you understand the pharmacological actions of opiates as well as the different possible opiates to take and may help you find the right one. Research is always the best thing to do.
