Hello.
I relapsed on heroin last month after being 9 months clean. I have used once a week for 5 weeks, usually on a Friday or Saturday. I asked my Psychiatrist for a prescription for Naltrexone to help deal with cravings and prevent using today, which she gave me. I will be picking up the prescription tomorrow, and I would like to start taking it to prevent myself from using. I want to be clean a majority of the time. It's just when it hits 6-7PM on a friday or saturday night I crave uncontrollably, so I feel as though taking it in the morning would be good, as I have intent to stay clean during that time and it would physically prevent me from getting high at night.
I was wondering, would it be safe to take the naltrexone tomorrow? Or will I go into precipitated withdrawal if I take it, having used tonight. I sincerely want to quit, and feel as though this would be a useful tool in helping me, but I have this concern.
I would figure that since I've been chipping, and don't have a physical addiction/habit right now, that it wouldn't, but a friend told me that if there was any opiates in my system I would experience precipitated withdrawal. I've tried to look this up on google, but can't find anything on it, only that people using opiates should wait 5-7 days to start taking it.
Sorry if this is meant to be posted in the recovery boards.
